So how far is the manga story compared to where the released novels are at now? How far ahead are the novels?

I started reading the manga yesterday and I couldn't stop reading it until I had nothing left. It was pretty addictive.

The novel end with six volume and each volume is big since it's not a light novel.

Ah, I didn't know that the novels had finished already.

I completed reading this thread this morning and I recall you guys mentioning that the novels were pretty thick. My interest was peaked in this thread a long time ago, but I lost interest in it because there wasn't anything I could actually read. It was like back in 1996 when I read about an interesting anime title in a magazine, but I couldn't actually watch it.

Now the manga is out and I'm happy about that. Is the manga still selling well?

The release for Gate is weird from what I know it's released one chapter a month online for free but the images aren't the best scans possible. And just recently the trade paper back came out for volume 1 or tokuban. What's funny it sold out here stateside and even in Japan through the large book chain I use to order japanese books. And it came out in June but I doubt it will be a top seller.

As of now 13 chapters are out and the 14th will be out at the end of the month. I haven't read the novels if my japanese was a little better I would buy all 5 books but I can at least read the raw manga's. For some reason all text and tons on kanji in novels or light novels just turns me off.

The manga is more like an advertisement for the novels, it's why it's being hosted free online after all.

I think someone said we're about halfway through maybe a bit past that of the first novel's content.

Piña Colada tries to defuse a potentially dangerous situation (her underlings beating a JSDF emissary) by...seducing Itami with a negligée in the middle of the night.

Problem is, the recon group had already crept into his room (the successfully infiltrated the town, and the maids then allowed them inside the palace/mansion) and made itself comfortable.

And the MC gets socked slapped again.

Piña didn't took up the task herself, but sent her commander; the ribbon knight girl (the responsible for everything) too, erm... Apologize (with the basis that all mens are equal everywhere or something like that ). The girl obviously didn't want to degrade herself like that, but as long as Piña ordered it, she was willing to go for it.

When she found Itami partying it out with everyone else, she didn't took it well.... I'm kinda fond of her now

Pina actually did first think of doing it herself, but Itami is only a squad leader - even taking into account that he's leading a special mission squad, at best she considers him equivalent to an Imperial centurion. (I'm not sure if I'm reading it right, but I don't get the impression that the social status difference bothers Pina personally; it's more that she sees herself as a valuable political card that can't be expended so lightly.)

Her next thought was Hamilton, especially since Hamilton was "experienced with men," but then Pina concluded Hamilton was too valuable as her aide, and if she got distracted (I think that was it, anyway - I had trouble parsing that sentence) it would be a major problem.

I'm confused. Since it's in the ocean, shouldn't a very different branch of the Self Defense Forces be involved in that?

Sailors and soldiers are very different things. For one thing, their videos are listed under seperate categories in pornographic films.

I think it has to do with the Malay/Indonesian language doesn't have an equivalent word for "Navy". (Over there, the Navy is called "Tentera Laut" which translated literally means "Sea Army". Tentera means Army but they called the regular Army "Tentera Darat" which means "Land Army".
