Maria-sama ga Miteru setting question

Ok I love the show and everything, but is it really set in 1902? Maybe the original novels were set in 1902, but the manga has to be set later, cause of a lot of things (notably one of the girls has a pixie hair cut, one of the girls has a freakin' color camera, the school has a newspaper club, etc.)

Does anyone know for sure, or are there any articles or author notes that state the anachronisms are deliberate?

Considering that ep 2 begins with a scene showing a modern day house and then Yumi's room with a computer, I don't think this anime takes place anytime before 1990. So it's definitely in the modern age.

Just where was it ever stated that the novels/manga/anime were set in 1902 anyway? I hadn't heard of this before.

That is actually the year that Lillian was founded. Maybe someone read that and got confused? I think people might have originally assumed that it took place in the past because it has a kind of old-fashioned shoujo feel to it. I've also heard that if Lillian bears any resemblance to "real" Japanese all-girl schools, it is to ones in the past rather than ones in the present. Maybe that's part of it too?

I think you confuse with the creation of the school

the school was created in 1901. (source : official site)
