Oh god yes, I've been reading the manga for awhile online, this will be one of the best anime you will have ever watched.

they'd better not otaku it up. Despite the really wierd hook (drool) the series is cute and genuine in it's own wierd way. This comes all down to the director, he has to keep the laid back, easy going tone about it.

What? this series is getting animated too? Granted, while I kind of like this series, the manga is such a niche series that I never though it would had a chance.

From the look of things 2012 is looking like a year with obscure series that shows that anime studio is running out of stuff to adapt again following 4-koma and LN rages of past couple years.

And BTW, quit misusing the word otaku. The only one that would read that series are otaku themselves and there is no point to otaku it up. It's a obscure, little seinen series just like Maken-ki, K-On, Lucky Star, etc were before they got anime-adapted.

Actually it's been going on for quite some time. And it isn't seinen: it isn't adult themed or anything "avant garde", even though the sexual tension is set to "deliciously jarring".

djmaca, you obvious have no idea how manga/LN and in extension how anime are categorized demographically in Japan and ACg community. It's not about content, it about the magazine the work is serialized on which determines it's target audience.

Mysterious Girlfriend X is Seinen, while it has being around for a while and is a nice little series that I enjoy, it is one of those series that did just enough in tankoban sales to stay serialized in it's published magazine.

The series is published monthly on "Afternoon", one of the longest running and popular "Seinen" magazine. The magazine also currently features Ah My Goddess, Genshiken, Blade of Immortal, Historie, Vinland Saga, Okiku Furikabutte and more. Former serialization includes Parasyte, Gunsmith Cat, Shadow Skill, Mushishi, Shion no Ō, You are Under Arrest, etc.

Mysterious Girlfriend X is at best an slightly above-average title in that magazine in terms of popularity and by far not the main draw of readership for that magazine based on tankoban sales and reader response.

Since the magazine is categorized as Seinen, by definition the title is a Seinen series targets said demographic (17+).

Even if you want to talk about content, the implied sexual tension and the showing of nipples in nude scene should automatically disqualify it as shounen which is aimed at 13-17. Granted there are shounen that have more "fan service" (like Nagima or To Love) but those series kept the skin hidden and doesn't change the fact that those two are Shounen and Mysterious Girlfriend X is Seinen as far as categorization goes.

Seinen also contains slice-of-life stories (K-ON!), shonen-like stories (Tenjho Tenge, Needless), and it seems that seinen has subject matters that are more diverse than shounen or shoujo stories.

I already explained it clear enough, you can also go check all the manga reference sites and even Wiki and see the age/demographic tag.

Seinen in Japanese mean Young Adult Male ages 20-30. It is an age demographic term not genre term. Afternoon is Seinen magazine target at 17+ and Mysterious Girlfriend X is one of the titles in that 800+ page magazine hence makes it Seinen.

Just like K-On, Luky Star and all the other titles I mentioned.

Shounen on the other hand means Teenage Boys ages 10-18 magazines labeled Shounen are aimed at said demographic and just like Seinen. Any readership gained outside of that demographic is purely bonus.

If you are talking about H-manga, they are a sub-division of Seinen, inclusive, but not exclusive.

Edit: MisaoFan beat me to it, but yeah, Seinen magazine usually offer less restraint and formulaic genre due to more lenient story-telling/arts and its target ages, but at same time it's popularity is behind Shounen [Young males/boys] and Shojo [Young female/girls] due to that target demographic as well.

Just so you know, series like K-on and Lucky Star and Yuru Yuri are primarily read bu 20-40 year old business/working men before the they got adapted into anime and so is Mysterious Girlfriend X.

Forgot Lucky Star has irregular appearance in Shounen Ace. However, Comptiq's manga section is primarily Seinen in it core as most manga it carries are adaptions of Eroges and the magazine also covers Eroge and AV (Adult video/ porn) in it's early years. shounen and seinen are NOT genres. romance, action, mecha ecc are genres, shoujo, shonen ect. are not

Like pinoscotto said, shounen is a category aimed at young male (pre-teen/teen) audience, not a genre. In my country, when a people said "shounen", (s)he thinks about action, adventure, fighting and the like in a Dragon Ball/Naruto style, which I consider h(er)im as a anime noob.
