Kira doesn't show off, he's a warrior. When he fights against a strong opponent like Shinn he fights for keeps. You're giving Kira too little credit, he may be a broken record about the whole stop fighting thing but still takes every battle seriously. People are way too attaching Rie Tanaka to Lacus; she's moved on from the role to give us Suigintou, Maria and the likes.

I have nothing but good things to say about her voice acting, and I wish her the best. But seriously: WTH man.

And no, Shinn/Luna isn't justifiable by Kenichi/Maaya.

The point is that Kira really hasn't shown the ability to beat Shinn with SEED mode(while he's piloting Destiny).

He has, more than once.

In fact, when Shinn did went SEED mode during their skirmish at Orb, Kira got pushed back. Doesn't matter if it's fair or not.

Still wasn't good enough to kill him though.
Btw, it's funny how you think that SEED vs non SEED is unfair, but 2 vs 1 is perfectly ok.

Shinn wasn't in SEED mode during that time. Still, Kira was almost killed anyway if it weren't for Athrun.

If Kira was killed back then, credit would go to Ray. He did the job overwhelming Kira, which Shinn couldn't do in the entire battle. But I can't see Kira getting killed from a long range effort like that because;
1. Time. It took Shinn too much time to get a lock. By the time he got a lock, Kira already stabilized the Freedom. he can simply turn and activate his shield or just dodge.

2. The distance. He probably has 1 second to react (maybe more) , Kira has shown he can do many things in asplit second + He is already in SEED mode.

2. HIMAT. Just like how SEED mode will enable Kira to react to such an attack, the HiMAT system will make sure the Freedom can execute any kind of maneuver that Kira comes up with. Activating the shield and turning 180° shouldn't be too hard.

Second quote is my opinion on Kira's decision not to kill his opponent.

Didn't seem to help against Shinn when he's swinging around the bulky, easy to avoid, Arondight during their fight at Orb.

Why use beam sabers when you are piloting the most agile MS in CE? You can just block or just evade that ASS.

Look at the 1st Strike Freedom vs Destiny fight again, right after Strike Freedom caught the ardonknight with its hands, it shot the railguns, instead of the plasma beam that would kill Shiin instantly.
How is that not showing off...

Athrun's fights are the most nonsensical ones though....
When he was using Infinite Justice against Destiny in the finale, it was so one sided it was ridiculous.... (If Lunamaria wasn't being stupid, I doubt Athrun would even care to use SEED, he was doing totally fine without needing it = =)
Also during Athrun's 1st use of it, he totally owned Shinn, despite being heavily injured...

If Mwu could survive being shot by a huge laser to the point his suit was blown up, in SPACE. I dunno how Shinn couldn't. Also, during that battle, did I miss something or did Shinn get another giant sword in time to attack Infinite justice after Kira blew it up with the railguns....

True, Altough I doubt Kira was "Showing Off", Kira is not cocky so I think Kira showed how superior he was to Shinn by the way he had him in that battle in Orb. Kira had Shinn in that battle (Kira basically had his life in his hands but due to No-Kill policy, He let him live....again).

If it wasnt for the no Kill policy Kira has, Shinn would have died in Impulse vs Freedom.
