I don't think you're supposed to drink it
I've just watched the episode again and there's a joke which I can't for the life of me fathom. Near the beginning of the episode the Exploration Group are pondering Asuna's absence from their meeting, Asakura comments that despite the unusual situation that the class have found themselves in that Asuna doesn't seem anxious to which Zazie interjects with "Anxiousness? If you want to cook Rice, use Binchotan", Kaede then mentions that Bincho is really good to eat (de gozaru) causing Zazie to despair at Kaede for her misunderstanding. After Googling I learned what Binchotan is but I don't get how they jumped from the word 'Anxiousness' to Rice cookery. I assumed that it was some sort of play on words or possibly a pun and really wanted to figure it out for myself so I listened to the conversation a few times to see if I could pick up on it using my limited grasp of Japanese, but alas couldn't 'get' it. I hope that this is just one of those jokes that got lost in the translation and that I haven't just exposed myself as a complete dullard. Anyone? Last edited by Maritime; 2007-05-26 at 19:12. |
