Being impatient and dusting off the ol' jolly roger (I subscribe to Netflix anyway so they're getting my money anyhow) I watched the first episode.
Yep. That hits the old spot and leaps straight to No.1 with a bullet, as they say I absolutely loved it. |

I love the character chemistry between Carole and Tuesday already and it's just the first episode.
Music seems pleasant to ears too. First song finished but I expect a lot more to come. They even got a Instagram account. Great stuff. 2-cour is also plenty of time to develop the story. Let's make music! Definitely a keeper.

As far as I can recall, they only did it once with Violet Evergarden. I guess it wasn't a success? It makes little sense for this show not to be simulcasted, given that it's obviously aimed at a western audience. Unless Netflix secretly wants to revive fansubbing
I really enjoyed the first episode. No worries about this getting rushed since it's two cour. This ought to be good.

I'm used to musical instruments and brands being faithfully represented in music anime, but I'm really confused as to how Instagram is still around (with the same interface!) in whatever year Mars 0049 corresponds to. Also, True Colors by Cyndi Lauper is unexpectedly timeless.
I'm pretty mixed on Watanabe overall but I'm cautiously optimistic. Pretty solid start anyway. |

It is very odd that this show seems overtly pitched to a Western audience yet is receiving no real-time distribution outside Japan. Pretty counter-productive.
As for the episode I liked it, but it didn't strike me as anything truly exceptional by Watanabe's high standards. Two issues for me - the sci-fi elements seemed very tacked-on and arbitrary, and the music was kind of lame. It's only the first ep and it's two cours, but obviously a series about music is going to need the music to be good to work.

That was a nice start. This is definitely one of my favorite premieres of the season. So far my main criticism would basically be the same as Guardian Enzo's first point, namely that if the duo are just going to use modern instruments, is there really any need for all the sci-fi elements? That could change down the line though, so we'll see.

If that's the future it's kind of depressing. Youngsters still obsessed with social media, losers still drinking Jack, spoiled rich kids riding the rails when they run away from home. And all we get out of the deal is a robot owl?

First episode is pretty solid. I'm glad they got some singers that can sing in English for this one. Who knew Instagram exists even in Mars. lol https://www.instagram.com/p/BwFPBTKB..._web_copy_link |
