Here is the summery and key visual.

Quote:
“Fifty years have passed since mankind began migrating to the new frontier: Mars. It’s an age where most culture is produced by AI, and people are content to be passive consumers.

There’s a girl. Scrapping a living in the metropolis of Alba City, she’s working part time while trying to become a musician. She’s always felt like something is missing. Her name is Carole.

There’s a girl. Born to a wealthy family in the provincial town of Herschel City, she dreams of becoming a musician, but nobody around her understands. She feels like the loneliest person in the world. Her name is Tuesday.

A chance meeting brings them together. They want to sing. They want to make music. Together, they feel like they just might have a chance. The two of them may only create a tiny wave. But that wave will eventually grow into something larger…”

It looks like a 24-episode show.

Definitely made anime of Spring 2019, which is turning out to be a very short list.

Being impatient and dusting off the ol' jolly roger (I subscribe to Netflix anyway so they're getting my money anyhow) I watched the first episode.

Yep. That hits the old spot and leaps straight to No.1 with a bullet, as they say

I absolutely loved it.

I love the character chemistry between Carole and Tuesday already and it's just the first episode.

Music seems pleasant to ears too. First song finished but I expect a lot more to come. They even got a Instagram account. Great stuff. 2-cour is also plenty of time to develop the story. Let's make music!

Definitely a keeper.

Will Netflix ever do the simulcast thing in US?

That was a pretty nice start. The show has nice potential going for it. A nice story about their journey into the realm of music.

Nothing bad to say there. Did a nice job introducing the two girls and showing them connect.

As far as I can recall, they only did it once with Violet Evergarden. I guess it wasn't a success? It makes little sense for this show not to be simulcasted, given that it's obviously aimed at a western audience. Unless Netflix secretly wants to revive fansubbing

I really enjoyed the first episode. No worries about this getting rushed since it's two cour. This ought to be good.

I'm used to musical instruments and brands being faithfully represented in music anime, but I'm really confused as to how Instagram is still around (with the same interface!) in whatever year Mars 0049 corresponds to. Also, True Colors by Cyndi Lauper is unexpectedly timeless.

I'm pretty mixed on Watanabe overall but I'm cautiously optimistic. Pretty solid start anyway.

It is very odd that this show seems overtly pitched to a Western audience yet is receiving no real-time distribution outside Japan. Pretty counter-productive.

As for the episode I liked it, but it didn't strike me as anything truly exceptional by Watanabe's high standards. Two issues for me - the sci-fi elements seemed very tacked-on and arbitrary, and the music was kind of lame. It's only the first ep and it's two cours, but obviously a series about music is going to need the music to be good to work.

That was a nice start. This is definitely one of my favorite premieres of the season. So far my main criticism would basically be the same as Guardian Enzo's first point, namely that if the duo are just going to use modern instruments, is there really any need for all the sci-fi elements? That could change down the line though, so we'll see.

The opposite for me, liked the imo realistic sci-fi elements, nothing crazy, but easily things we can expect in the next 30-40 years (other than the mars thing, but the whole AI, and robot automated jobs and stuff)

If that's the future it's kind of depressing. Youngsters still obsessed with social media, losers still drinking Jack, spoiled rich kids riding the rails when they run away from home. And all we get out of the deal is a robot owl?

Its netflix right? They rather wait till the entire season is done before they upload it entirely than put it week by week. I dont know, but they probably have metrics that show that people are more likely to sit down and watch something if its available in its entirety than one week at a time

But unlike most Netflix co-productions, this one isn't dumping in the U.S. at the same time it premieres in Japan. That's what makes no sense to me, given the obvious export market focus.

They actually didn't simulcast Evergarden in the US, but many other regions like Netflix UK and others I forgot.

First episode is pretty solid. I'm glad they got some singers that can sing in English for this one. Who knew Instagram exists even in Mars. lol
