Ooh...sorry, looks like our discussion has strayed out of the Haruhi-chan area. The Alter!Yuki we are talking about has to do with Volume 4 of the novel series (soon to animated at a TV near you, unless you don't live in Japan!), which is now apparently being expanded upon in a Yuki-channish manner in the aforementioned new manga by the same guy that brought us Haruhi-chan.

This is the difference:

Yuki-chan (from Haruhi-chan) is funny. Agreed.
Alter!Yuki (from novels, non-"chan" series) is moe. You will see what we are talking about. If you have an internet, you will not be able to avoid it. If you think Mio from K-On! is everywhere, you ain't seen nothin' yet. If I were 4chan, I'd get more servers. Yesterday.

Yuki-chan (from the upcoming manga of the containing the same name) is probably some combination of the two, leaning toward the former.

To say more would bring spoilers. Read the books.

It ranked 9th with 10,539 sold copies in the weekly anime DVD chart by Oricon.

And Yuki in that Dissapearence cover looks totally different. The hair, expression... She even got BOOBIES. That's waaay off, hehe.
