I don't know if anyone realize it yet, the first part of the episode is also parody of the first kamen rider, it too obvious

The scene when he was "abducted by pirates" showed the One Piece crew, but I guess it is too obvious to everyone for comment?

Watched the first episode of Z: SZS through Chinese subs.

Wow, that was just....random. The heck was the first half of the episode all about?!

As for the second half? Probably can be described as 'classic' SZS, with a profiling of a character all of us has probably forgotten never got one in the first season in the first place, because she was normal.

Glad to be able to catch the randomness that is SZS, all over again.

Just got done watching the first episode. That was a blast.

The first half, while extremely random and taken from the inside of a book jacket, was an amusing little watch. We even got to see the "I'm in despair!" animations again. Those will never get old.

The second half of the episode was normal ("Don't say normal!") for SZS, and I liked seeing Nami getting the spotlight for once. In a class like that, I can sort of understand her wanting to be noticed, and seeing her constantly realize that she's just normal was great.

The class roster was the best sight gag.

You wouldn't see that in Negima.

The new OP and ED are pretty good - looking forward to seeing what animation they put the new OP to when the time comes for it.

Glad to have this show back.

Maybe they thought if they did Itoshiki-sensei would spiral into despair. Well glad two fansubbers are attacking this.

I think Spoonsubs made some weird choice of words in their translation, such as Ai Kaga's desciption as "Delusions of assault girl." There are also several important kanji left untranslated, such as from 1:00 to 1:02 and from 9:31 to 933.

Nevertheless, they do a good work of this very difficult-to-translate anime, so I guess I really should not criticize too harshly on their job.

I didn't quite expect to find a.f.k.'s release for this show anymore, but seeing they stick with it makes it the more enjoyable. I'm also glad that Spoonsubs released the first episode even though they have their hands full with Sketchbook.

Spoiler for some random thoughts about the first episode:

A very enjoyable episode, though I spoiled myself a little bit from watching the raw. I think I will patiently wait for the subs, since I have no way to understand all the jokes with what little Japanese i know.

whos better? a.f.k or spoonsubs?

i think even if spoonsubs is better i'll be faithful to a.f.k.

EDIT: spoonsubs is ok, not great.
loving a.f.ks release though.

a.f.k. released their sub like 20 minutes after my spoonsubs torrent had finished. *shakes fist at the gods of fate*
In any case, I'll just wait for a.f.k. to release their subs from now on (spoonsubs did a nice job, but I'm an a.f.k. faithful).

Anyways, on to the episode. IMHO, episode 1 of ZSzS beats episode 1 of SzS, which is quite an accomplishment in and of itself.

Hooray, it's back.

Ep 1

We all have a fair idea what to expect from this series now (ie, the unexpected), and while this first episode wasn't as brilliant as some of the eps in the last series (some of the jokes in the original were just a work of Shinbo... I mean genius... their interchangeable words in this context), it's a worthy SZS episode. The chronology bugged me, though. I mean, I realize this isn't supposed to be a coherent story with a linear timeline, but it always played in the back of my mind that Nami had been around since the beginning, before many of the characters that appeared in this ep were introduced, but now this was supposed to be an introduction for her, and everyone else had conveniently forgotten she existed (and she them). Oh well.

I already miss "bure bure bure bure"...

Eh. I really liked Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei, but I don't know if I can handle a second season. It's just not as funny once the novelty wears off.

Someone convince me to watch this, I'll feel guilty if I don't.

Just watch it. It's not going to kill you.

But, I agree, this is a problem all anime comedies (in fact, comedies in general) face. Almost all anime comedies seem to have a certain lifespan after which they're no longer funny, and I can't see any reason why SZS would be any different, even if it did manage to last through one season. We just have to hope that they don't run out of good material.

ED was awesome. Now if they could animate the entire show in that style. <3 shoujo style Komori the best.
