Sonic Boom (WiiU/3DS)

Quote:
The next Sonic the Hedgehog game, Sonic Boom for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, will be developed by a pair of Western studios, Sega announced today, and deliver a "fresh approach that will be at once both familiar and new" for Sonic and his friends, Tails, Amy and Knuckles. Sonic Boom is the third title in Sega's exclusive deal with Nintendo and promises to take advantage of the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS hardware. In addition to featuring Sonic the Hedgehog's traditional sense of speed, Sonic Boom will introduce a new "Enerbeam" mechanic that will allow players to explore the game's world in unique ways.

The Wii U and 3DS games will be based on Sonic Boom, a new franchise in the Sonic universe that will extend into television, gaming, merchandise and more. Sega of America's senior director for marketing Marchello Churchill said the new take on Sonic won't replace modern Sonic, but will take "the franchise to another level."
Well... besides the whole "Skrillex" problem in the trailer... we don't have to worry about this being the "new" Sonic... though, looking at the gameplay... can't help but feel this is gonna be a beat-em up/platformer...

The developer of the Wii U version was founded by an ex-Naughty Dog guy and is made up of people who worked on Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank. The one on the 3DS version is the developer behind the most recent Sly Cooper game. I'd expect the game to be very good based on such pedigree, which makes the weird character designs and the doom of being exclusively on the Wii U all the more tragic.

Huh, didn't expect a game to be developed alongside the cartoon as well. Well naturally I shall give it a try when it releases.~

So this is an attempt to create another "sub-series" out of the Sonic IP like the storybook games were. Well at least it looks a lot more fun than the storybook games at this point.

For a better look at the designs...

Overall it's fine... I mean... Knuckles kept his Lego shoes... though... what's with the HEAVY use of bandages?

Tails and Amy look fine, but Sonic and especially Knuckles look awful.

Awful is a bit of an overstatement if you ask me. It really isn't very different.

Just needs some getting used to.~

I'm fine with Amy and Tails. I really like Amy .

Sonic is okay, though I could do without the blue arms, especially when Amy still has her brown skin.

Knuckles... I just feel bad for Knuckles .

The bandages that they all have are also a little jarring.

Going by the trailer, the game looks nice and it's great to finally be able to play as someone other than Sonic. Though the gameplay with Sonic looked pretty cool .

they did a pretty good job at making the game and cartoon look identical.

Looks like Amy's been taking advice from Rouge on how to get a man.

After the utter disappointment that was Lost World, I'm willing to give this one a chance. Roided Knuckles and sultry Amy are a refreshing break from the norm, and Tails actually looks like he can star in his own game now.

As long as it isn't nightmarishly boring as Unleashed was with the melee portions, this could turn out to be decent.

Looks interesting =03. I did enjoy what Lost World was trying to do, but I just wasn't feeling it like Generations was =0((although the intentions of each game were different, so that's to be expected). This looks like its right up my alley =03.

Shame that they didn't use this chance to introduce the Archie comic's Sonic version. Wonder if SEGA would ever take a risk on it?

Sonic Boom Wii U Will Not Feature Online Multiplayer Experience

Does this mean it'll be like Lost Worlds, and the Wii U one won't have it... but the 3DS version will? Don't think that'll effect the game so much... but I can tell you it'll be another thing for people to complain about...

Probably not. But games developed/programmed specifically for Wii U tend to have surprisingly solid framerates. It's kind of weird that there are so many 60 fps titles for it. I'm curious how much they're using Cryengine 3, given the lengthy development cycle for this title.

It's not like Sonic is known for its robust online features.
