Fairy Tail Anime Episode Discussion Thread [Episode 165 and Onward]

the rainbow-coloured sakura looks really pretty. Love the simple laughs in this episode.
Looks like we'll have more filler episodes coming (thought will be moving to the new arc since ep 73 isn't filler). Hopefully the fillers will be then better than the last one. I'm not that impressed with the Daphne fillers. Makes no sense at all.

For some reason the first half of new ED seriously reminded of slightly differnt arc than the one that has to come.

They really shouldn't have included Lisanna in there, Natsu Lucy 2 were enough.

Otherwise quiet nice.

Yeah, this opening is slightly better than the last one. Still spoilerific, but not the highlights reel the last one was.

Spoiler for Episode 73:

First part was pretty standard Fairy Tail comedy. Although the part with Lucy and Wendy was nice.
The second part was happy guild stuff mixed with Lucy flashbacking to scenes she wasn't at...
Although it was sad how Natsu wasn't able to enjoy himself at all. But what he did for Lucy at the end was really sweet.
Also Nab got the most focus he's ever gotten.
The next EP preview shows a lot of Freed so no idea how that'll turn out.

Is nobody going to comment on the return of the narrator describing the kingdom at the start? Anyways to be fair on the flashback part, with the timeslot change, they had to put in some sort of recap to give viewers an idea of what happened before, and not everything they might want to show off would be something that Lucy was present for. Heck, the first half of the episode reflected the need to establish things for new viewers. That was pretty much the only reason for Makarov's speech at the start, and probably part of the reason for the stock summoning/requip scenes.

Not a bad episode. I laughed at the few moments throughout the episode, like the scene with Erza and Bingo or Gajeel saying how everything is messed up. The new OP/ED are meh for me.
Next episode seems a lot more enjoyable. It has Fried/Freid.

Some important (IMO) details are still not mentioned, so I'll write them with other remarks.

Spoiler for 73: manga:

The story is not truly anime only filler, even title says it. Since 12:40 they used here slightly changed omake: Rainbow Sakura (03/2010), which starts with everyone participating in Hanami while Lucy's in home and explains Natsu that she'll won't go, because she's got a cold. This omake has only 7 pages. They tried hard to extend it and partially they succeeded...

Spoiler for 73: visual changes!:

I noticed 2 things:

• Reduced use of CG magical circle signs, which is good.
  Spoiler for manga:

  In manga magical signs are very rarely used, e.g. in case of giant Phantom mage or Etherion, (almost? not sure for 100%) never in case of mages.
• Natsu's glowing hand instead of flames... WTF, tight budget? Hand flames weren't maybe perfect, but this now is so typical and overused across animes that I'm really disappointed.

Spoiler for 73: OP/ED introduced for Edolas arc:

I don't get it. Why music in these ops and eds needs to be so different and, let's say it clear, much worse than BGM? Especially when FT BGM seen (oops... heard) in OST is really good (I praised it before). Story-wise they are utterly terrible, because they spoiler as hell - what's wrong with people behind them? And overall impression: possibly the worst OP/ED so far...

Spoiler for 73: OP for Edolas arc - manga PoV:

Gildartz is seriously fucked up here. He doesn't look even as 35 (he's 45 now, but young Natsu+Lisanna are shown in first shot, so he's possibly ~40; second Gildartz is presumably current look, still not better) and charismatic as in manga, at all! Other chara-design sucks too. Edo Lucy looks worse than in manga, and Edo Natsu even more... As for spoilerism, they even overused Lisanna for no good reason - these guys are just hopeless...

Spoiler for 73:

So-so filler w/ some nice moments. Not ridiculous as Bad Gray Story, thus not off-putting at least. Pretty stupid idea of reusing Mount Hakobe from Macao's arc (ep2/ch2-3) and therefore awful Horologium (yup, I hate this spirit). I also didn't like the inner recap, which could be done a lot better. OTOH Rainbow Sakura was beautiful, so you can skip to 21:00 to admire it a bit too.

Just saw the raw for 74. Filler episode but enjoyable.

Spoiler for 74:

A Wendy-centric episode dealing with her first job as a member of Fairy Tail. Very interesting with the group set up. Wendy teams up with Fried and Happy, while for some reason Lucy ends up being teamed with Erza and Charlie. From what I saw, it looks like the director that Natsu and co helped out a while back is the one who offered the job the Wendy took.

Cute ep about Wendy being more useful then everyone thought. They actually worried for no reason since she saved them. Those were some creative groupings. Like how Natsu even went as far as to use transportation to catch up with them. At least Carla and Wendy aren't fighting anymore.

Three cheers for Natsu for taking transportation. He didn't think of walking like the rest of them since he will rather walk? Am I the only one who think that Gray is wise not to follow them? That is a rather comical episode.

Freed's bit on laxus made me lol. Nice to see a humorous side of his and much more fully detailed personality altogether. The episode was quite enjoyable, erza and natsu with their usual comedic antics was gravy on top.

The next filler episode looks promising as well.

haha, hilarious episode. Great to see some different members of FT playing a role. (Wendy's dragon roar is a bit spoiler-ish)

strange to see Natsu without Happy around. It just isn't complete without the two of them together.
