I mean Esper abilities aren't hereditary.
Not exactly, Mugino was about to eat a high quality Bento that she had her eye on for a long time, but Mikoto knocked it over while chasing Touma causing her to go berserk. After the fight, Mugino was still berserking and so Touma pushed all the responsibility to Mikoto into buying a new one (Tokiwadai Super Bento) to appease her

wasn't it stated that DNA is the one that majorly determines what Level you can potentially reach? either way if Level 5's actually bred with each other, at the very least their children would have high calculation abilities.

The only thing DNA determines is probably just the type of ability. And lastly, Genius + Genius /= Genius

The clones weren't PURE DNA, they said they could not clone it 100%.
Worst (and probably Full Tuning) had the most upgrades and tweaking, they were the closest ones to 100% DNA. DNA determines the general types of abilities you are compatible (for example "Wind" and with tweaking you get different wind type abilities like nitrogen armor, lance...) and most likely the higher the level, the harder is it to change. And I believe those calculation abilities aren't something you are born with, but something given by curriculum. Based on fact that they copy espoer powers and make weapons out of them, it's very plausible to say that they copy natural capabilities of people (photographic memory, fast mathematical calculations, fast thinking...) and give them to their students as they progress with their level. And like I explained in different thread, it's not about REAL TALENT you are born with, but about the compatibility with the curriculum (that makes you genius). And yes genius+genius /= genius, but the chances are still very high that the person will be at least lv 2-3. |

power type is kinda vague on whether inheritance or not. we don't really know much about the background of espers in academy city. for those we do know:
Kongou Mitsuko = Aero Hand = Kongou Aviation Tsuchimikado Motoharu = Auto-Rebirth = Abe no Seimei (your neighborhood reincarnation guy in fiction) descendant. since if you take these two it could be environmental or genetic or it could be Lamarck-ish (traits acquired by parents etc but of course only comes out when you undergo the Curriculum). since they're all taken to academy city as kids, i don't think it's really environmental. we have ultra rare teleporters, so i guess they're recessive genes while common ones like electromaster might be dominant ones. as for 1-in-1.8-million powers like Vector Change or Dark Matter, well it could be a mutation. as for Level 5 children's intelligence: IQ is mostly polygenic iirc (a.k.a. more smart genes from parents = higher probability of getting a smarter kid). i say IQ because it's pretty much the only known measure of intelligence we have. as for the clones, their growth rates were accelerated by chemicals, and they didn't go through the same thing mikoto did in order to become a level 5. the potential is hardwired, but their environments are different. if we had identical twins in academy city, everything would be much clearer. make it happen Kamachi. also, if calculation ability is given by Curriculum, then Kill Point wouldn't be so damn incompetent.

Well I probably won't a lot of reactions outta this post, but...
I have finished writing the first draft of ch 3 of my "A Certain Date Auction" fic. Rewriting it now so I can take it home and rewrite it again for a 3rd time in word before sending it off to my beta who has been a GREAT help. |

Maybe they have those powers because it's in their worldview. Quote:

I think that the biggest problem I'm going to have with this chapter and the final one is the fact that I have to try and WRITE the auctioning part.
I've seen plenty of auctions and now how to work it, but trying to transfer what you can see, hear, and feel into writing and still make it work is the hardest part >.> |

^If it's a date auction in Academy City, I can't imagine that it'd work similarly to normal date auctions. So don't try too hard to make it 'realistic'. I think in the end most people just want to know who ends up with who.
Spoiler for As a person who is completely full of it...:

Here's what I think is going to happen. Spoiler for Baseless guessing and wishful thinking:
Well, I'd say it's a 50/50 thing. Kind of like a magic god.
