About the Church, it was mentioned that they are the only known remaining users of the Ancient Velka, a magic type that seems to be highly revered by the TSAB. Go figure... the most powerful magic-users are all "motherly/fatherly" types.
It sets up very well for bipolar personalities when it comes to combat. Here we have Hayate, a very sweet lady who somehow also has an insatiable lust for combat. To the point where it even disturbs Signum.
It's funny really. The Knights bent over backwards to keep Hayate out of combat, but when Hayate finally got to taste fighting (no thanks to the Lieze twins), she can't seem to get enough of it now. Power corrupts?
Imagine an angry Carim. I can't quite fully visualise that yet, but if Carim ever gets serious, I imagine there is going to be a whole world of serious hurt.

Still, I WILL choke on laughter if they visit the Saint Church compound and Acous spouts the line, "Welcome to the House of God." while the three of them are floating in the air with moonbeams shooting out of their eyes or some jazz like that.
Acous is definitely more experienced than Hayate, but unlike her, he doesn't have a Logia (though not at full power) to back him up.

Hayate definitely has a "dominating" trait. Career aside, she constantly refers to the Knights as her "kids" even though they are all older than her in terms of centuries (if not millennia). When she discovered that Fate and Nanoha could cook, she wanted to utilise them in a cooking demonstration. When Signum and Nanoha's sparring escalated into a team battle, it was Hayate, not Chrono, who laid down the rules.
Hayate also shares the same "I must not lose" mentality as Fate and Nanoha, and took on both of them in the above-mentioned team battle (which amazingly resulted in a stalemate, attesting to the raw power that Hayate has in her spells).
Steering back to her career advancement in the TSAB, Hayate has had the fastest ladder promotion amongst the three girls. Especially when you take into consideration that Nanoha and Fate had a considerable headstart on her (Fate being the butt of Signum's jibes for being the slowest ).
Her drive to be a commander befits her personality, in which she likes to be in charge of things.
A lot of the manga's charm comes from the way they flesh out the characters, since they are not shackled to the main plot that the anime series had to show within 13 episodes (lots of Yuuno and Nanoha interactions too, outside of the combat ones (I especially liked the one where Nanoha tried to drag Yuuno to the all-girls Hot Springs vacation (and then there is that one scene where Yuuno is sharing the same bathtub as Nanoha...))).
Although I must say, the TSAB is a very liberal organisation. No age requirement for their military cadets (9 years old? Welcome to the force!), fast turnaround for convicts that have excellent magic potential, etc...
I mean, look at Subaru. She joined the military at age 12. 12. You would need to be in some sort of war-torn 3rd world country to see child soldiers like that in real-life.

Random post here. Regarding the minimum employment age in Midchilda, it's stated in the Nanoha novel that their's is actually pretty low, which probably could help give a sensible explanation as to why so many of their people rise to high ranks at a young age.
Nonetheless their child-care laws are still good enough to prevent exploitation... most of the time.
Ever since I saw Hayate in the opening in what looks like a battle ship, I tried imagining how she'll be in it. I can't stop imagining her grinning out of sheer glee. Ni matter what happens, I imagine she'll almost always have a smile on her face. I can imagine her not holding back in a fight, but able to accept surrender. I can also imagine her being quite strong in tactical combat.
I think she'll be able to gather quite a reputation, perhaps as a grinning demon.

I don't think Hayate was in a battleship in the OP, more like in HQ, inside that tall building behind Nanoha and Fate. Nonetheless, it's still one of the more memorable scenes in the OP (asides from the Haken Saber/ Divine Buster spam combo they did XD).

Objects in motion, stay in motion until opposed by a force of equal nature (which in the Drones' case, means being smacked around). Since the AMF is a passive defence (I don't see the Drones actively seeking out to neutralise magic attacks), it is "useless" against physical attacks that are already incoming, as amply demonstrated by the triumphant trio as they rained hail and not-so-much-fire-as-it-is-ice onto the hapless Drones for a clean victory.
Also, Fate showed that Electricity was still usable against the AMF-shields, so that means they are also vulnerable to the elements. Cue Elio here with his Lightning Spear.
The AMF is only useful against pink-blasters and generic magic in general. It is not the end-all be-all of all magic defence. Problem is... most TSAB-enforcers seem to be relying too much on "pure magic" attacks. Complacency, so to speak.

That would go along with the change of dynamic in StrikerS: Whereas Nanoha and A's focused on skill and power, here we might see more cunning plans devised during battle, so as to get Subaru, Teana and the rest of Mobile Section 6 to up their ante, not just in Magical Power, but in Brain Power as well. Subaru and Teana certainly showed this dynamic well, and the Aces in A's to Strikers show that they don't just attack situations with a battleship mentality (aka Bigger Guns + Thicker Armor = Invincible).
