I like it. In fact, I like it so much, that I don't really feel like trying to expend the effort necessary to poke holes in it. It's a pretty cool idea IMO. I'd like to just believe it's true and be content with that for now.

Technically anyone who dies in spirit form turns into particles (or hollow food if they're eaten). The shinigami just have the special ability of turning hollows into plus souls when slicing them with their zanpakuto - everything else just destroys souls left and right....or so I remember. If I'm wrong, don't hesitate to correct me, it's been a loooong time after all

Given that the universal defining Quincy characteristic is the control of reishi, which is what souls are made of, I've always assumed that any soul destroyed by a Quincy weapon is rendered into inert, "usable" reishi and "kicked out" of the cycle of reincarnation. Given that Yhwach is the progenitor of the Quincy, but wields a sword, that doesn't really help answer the question at hand, since he himself may not technically be a Quincy, but I'd say it's safe to assume that any souls destroyed by his Wandenreich are gone for good.

My headcanon is that Yhwach can decide either to kill in a way that allows reincarnation (like a Shinigami) or in a way that doesn't (like one of his Quincy). If so, Yama-jii is probably gone for good. Given that Yhwach's end game is the nullification of all reality, allowing one of his oldest enemies to reincarnate is probably not high on his list of priorities...

What if the Shikai is the "kyouka" (flowers on a mirror) and the Bankai is the "suigetsu" (moon on the surface of the water)?

i assume that the moon he creates can reflect his hypnosis onto everything it sees, so it acts as both a spying device and a larger hypnosis device.

this is of course pure speculation, but hypnosis on ulquiorra could have helped ichigo win and/or transform into a hollow by making everyone think he was killed by ulquiorra. it could be the real reason or another reason masaki died, etc... it's also possible that aizen could use it for hypnosis if he wanted and just hadn't needed to yet. at the very least i think it's a pretty awesome theory and if it proves true, it'll be another great example of kubo setting something up over a very long time. it certainly explains how aizen knew about the ulquiorra fight

Speaking of theories, has anyone seen the theory of the aging Yhwach?
Spoiler for theory:

I wonder what this could mean assuming its not just Kubo being inconsistent?

Yes, because finger stingers ≈ BFG.

Perhaps its only purpose is to serve as a subtle nod to that very point--in which case, bravo Kubo. If nothing else, that'd be kind of funny.

His 'stache is just like Ichigo's Shinigami uniform. The stronger he gets, the bigger it gets. Seireitei was already screwed once it reached porn 'stache levels, but he's nearly to Grizzly Adams at this point...

Forgot where I read this from, but apparently Kubo leaves the hospital on the 9th day to release chapter 612 (6+1+2) just in time for Jump #9.

Don't you get it? His stash is the real villain possessing the Quincy
