.....................OKAY. TOTALLY UNEXPECTED.

That news caught me off guard. I know there had been revival of old school stories but man...... >_>

Well, at the end of the OVA they did say that Dark Schneider would return. It's only been 30 years!

Kinda surprising though since didn't the manga basically stop updating?

TV series then I guess?

This feel like kicking the dead.
What we want is vol.28, not another half baked anime.

Am I dreaming? Is this real life? It's too early for April's Fools, isn't it? Can't actually believe I'm seeing this happen. Even Biscuit Hammer anime felt more plasuible lmao

I'm so dumb, I'm actually starting to think this is a prequel to Hagiwara getting off his ass.

Yeah, by his own admission, Hagiwara Kazushi is an even worse procrastinator than Miura Kentaro, though he does, every once in a thousand blue moons, work on character designs for OAVs and games.

There were some Bastard!! games at one point, but I think they're buried under several centimeters' worth of cobwebs...I think Hagiwara just dove back into the world of doujinshi and never bothered to return.

...And I am just as shocked as everyone else, especially since this is a series whose author himself left to wither away quite a while ago, and right after starting a new story arc, to boot.

I don't know why but I actually thought this had already been announced so I was surprised this thread was created so recently.

BITCHIN'!!!! Totally unexpected! I haven't thought about this series in a long while. I read Bastard years ago online ages ago. I never thought it'd get a reboot.

For the love of God, please don't half-ass the animation. Get it as close to the OVA's quality as possible.

What is up with these out-of-the-blue anime announcements for series that have been long since over? I thought the business model was, make anime to sell the manga, not "anime for the hell of it" these days... first Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer, and now Bastard!!

Not that I'm complaining, mind you. I need to go back and read Bastard!! anyways. It seemed so fun.

It IS produced, at least in part, by Netflix

https://twitter.com/bastard_PR/statu...62138971033600

This means that they are aiming a much different target audience:

- Those who watch the Castlevania animated series.
- Those who long wanted an anime that is like "In my time, anime was much better when it was just Ninja Scroll and [those 3 series]", as in gritty.
- Those who grew up with the ultraviolent, gritty and edgy OAVs of the 1990s published in the West by the company Manga Video/Manga Entertainment, with its very infamous VHS trailer (look up "Manga Video Promotional Video version 2" on youtube, you WILL understand).

Ah, so this is for those folks who watched the extremely violent/gory 80's anime, including the one that Manga Video's mascot is from. I have a friend who LOVES that kind of anime.

Yeah, that audience is definitely older than the one most anime is aimed at today. Probably also why they can get away with producing this old title.

Dark Schneider doesn't seem to fitting for Netflix in these moronic times.

It's for the niche audience who watches Baki, or series like that. And yes, Dark Schneider will trigger a lot of twitter triggerotrons.

Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?

It'll be hard to unhear Jean "Horseface" Kirschtein as Dark Schneider.

Now if only the entire Berserk series of 2016/2017 was as good as that trailer.

The trailer looks good... so are y'all willing to forgive that it's LIDENFILMs, i.e. the ones responsible for the 2016/2017 terrible BERSERK films?

The trailer looks great!
But OTOH I also want a Blu-ray remaster of the old OVAs.

It's always the team that matters, not so much the studio.

For example, the same Madhouse gave us OPM & Overlord. OPM-team did great. Overlord-team did.....meh.
