My general impression is very good. It's been many years I've seen a shonen series with such fast pace-> action, humor and mystery all packed in just 51 episodes. Shounen are generally quite slow and repetitive but this one is several steps ahead to this.

The overal story is in fact simple and several times I got myself thinking how silly it looks to send kids in missions even their teachers find dangerous or acting ridiculous in the middle of the battle. Still, the fast pace saved the series from being a dull Naruto clone. With the exception of the last episodes, all fillers were great and the plot moved almost like crazy.

Animation was great to me. It had the gothic theme, with several special super powers for each characters to make them feel unique in battle. Unlike most series were no matter the name or the looks of the battle, the result in battle is the same.

Characters sounded and looked interesting. They were extreme archetypes at times and queer people you hardly believe could exist in real life but the series made a fine job making fun of their archetypes and queers that I liked it a lot. So, Black*Star is not just a Naruto variant to me but a Naruto parody, and etc...

Could it be done better? Yes, of course, the ending sucked. And several missions felt uneccessary in the long run to the point of skipping them entirely. Also, several characters are introduced quite suddenly, to the point of wondering if they were invisible before.

I give it a 7/10, which is a very good average considering I don't enjoy shounen much anymore. If the ending was not crap, it would be an 8. If some story elements were left out, it would be a 9. If there was a full story that made me thing seriously of stuff, like existencialism or philosophy in a higher level than the image of that red demon and the piano, it would be a 10.

Am I the ONLY one who has noticed that the red soul room and the demon was a direct reference to David Lynch's Twin Peaks?!

I will just say my impression... i'm not good at ratings... Well... until the episode 50 it was very good, the episode 51 was awful... what kind of punch was that? A super duper bionic rocket punch?! The so called fearful kishin was destroyed by a simple punch?! I just don't get it... This single thing destroyed the image that i have about this anime... it is just good...

the ending is pretty screwed and really strayed from the original story

here's my tip just watch "Soul Eater" till episode 29 that's where the story still makes sense

I'm bad with ratings but I can easilly say that the whole final had ruined whole show for me. There were a lot of endings that have dissapointed me but it is the first one that has pushed me away that much! I never was fond of main characters and that punch had really dropped Maka on my list.

I was raging when she suddenly was able to deafeat Medusa who is far superior, smarter and better in fighting than Maka and was the one to give Stein hard time and yet some student had defeated her without trying much? What a way to make a villian look lame especially when weapon didn't even scratch her -_-
If this witch hunter is that great, why won't Shinigami sent all death Scythes and masters out there to kill withes when it is that easy?

But the whole punch thingy looked even more horrible and I really wanted to choke Maka back then. If Medusa's lose was lame then I just can't find the right words to describe the whole Kishin defeat. Great Shinigami couldn't scratch him yet some stupid punch from a student did... LAME!

So yeh... if to be true, I had enjoyed anime till Kishin was freed. As soon as Kishin was free, the anime started to fall. So yeh I would give anime 8 or maybe even 7. I guess 8, since Medusa appeared to be alive yet, atleast one good news.

I'm not going to tell my opinion about all the details, but all I'm saying is this...

Overall, I liked it. When I started watching Soul Eater, I liked it's kind of simple, but unique, yet mysterious feeling. When I was watching it, I was starting to feel like: "Is this it? Is it all just a good start, characters and a little plot, but nothing else?" Then the series started giving me these questions: "What's going to happen next?" All those scenes for example with Crona's and Maka's friendship, were really touching, I cried in every scene. Soul Eater had also very different elements as for example a little horror, which might not be frightening for everyone, but at least gave me some nightmares. :'D Coming back to what I said before of the questions, in those last episodes they had revealed the answers just perfectly. During the series the watcher was plundering (at least I was)about those questions, but in the end he/she got the answers and with a really nice touch into it. My reaction was a silent moment and after that I yelled:"AAAHA! So that's how it goes!" I liked that how Eibon had actually so big part in the series and maybe the maker had done it first, even before everything else. Of course, I haven't read the manga, so I can't tell, whose idea it was, but anyway.

As for the characters... I liked them. Every boy seemed to have some kind of mental problem, which was very hilarious. :'D Thought, I still think those female characters weren't quite finished. It bothers me, how in so many animes women tend to be the same breathless shells, which don't really have as much characteristics as men. Soul Eater is actually one of those, where the females aren't so cliché, but it tends to go a little like that, in my opinion of course.

So, I enjoyed this series very much. It didn't have those boring moments so often, actually there were more of those interesting moments so I really enjoyed it. I gave it the second best, which is Excellent.

EDIT:
It seems I'm the only one, who thinks that the ending was good... I agree with you, that it wasn't the ending I was waiting for, because I was thinking: "And I'm sure it's going to end just like all the shounen will: first we kick some ass, then we lose a little and then we kick some ass again and everyone is saved...yay." My opinion is that the ending was good, not just because of the surprise, but also because of the meaning. "Not everything is bad, there's also a little light at least somewhere." I still agree that the punch wasn't maybe the best choice, but can you see Maka doing some spell of light? I'd rather bury myself underground than see that happening. I think the punch fitted for Maka's personality.

@Kazuke: If you really liked Soul Eater that mutch don't let it rot and start reading the montly manga from the start! Then come back and post the results.

While the anime and the manga both have their own weak points and strong points. The ending to the anime if your realy think about it... Contradicts a lot of things said and done before. Not only that but It completly messes up the powerlevels. To the point that they make no more sence. Medusa's gang didn't even get to do anything in the final fight and Dues Ex Machina's as large as New York Citty were abundant.

Then again this is just my humble opinion. x'D

A pretty good action humors series. I liked the idea of this anime, the action scenes were pretty cool and the story was amazing. The characters were all well done as well. Animation was okay, nothing too impressive, but it was decent enough.

I thought that Soul Eater was actually pretty good. I liked it so much that when I finished watching the anime, I went and searched for the manga and read it in about a week @|. It was smoothly animated with a unique style, which I think was one of the best things about it. Character development was great, especially for Kid XD. The ending was a little too abrupt. I think they should have made a second season and not have the Kishin defeated in the end of the first one.
And am I the only one who thinks that it strayed from the seemingly ultimate goal in the beginning? Wasn't the goal to make Soul, Tsubaki, Liz, and Patty into Death Scythes? Or did I miss something somewhere?
Spoiler for for Soul:

Plot development could use some work, I agree, after episode 29-ish.
The action sequences were exciting. Some of the scenes were down-right hilarious. Overall, a solid, entertaining anime. I give it a 9/10.

Solid series from start to finish. Great music, design, animation, story and excellent execution overall.

Only thing I can complain about was that abrupt ending...I just hope they make a S2 or something.

If you don't mind me suggesting this, you might want to start reading the manga. The general consensus is that the manga is actually way better than the anime and best of all: it is still ongoing.

I also heard there were many changes from the manga to the anime, I watched up until the battle against Mosquito (which I heard after that battle, it all went into Anime Original, or directed away from the manga) but a response said that I should read all the way back to chapter 1 to understand the differences. Is the difference that noticeable?

Overall....
It's too quick to end such nice series
It should be long and naggy like Hitman reborn, Naruto or Bleach
I am not happy that they end it within 51 episodes

Anyway the manga has not ended yet... but how long they will last

Not really ... the biggest differences are the introduction of 'Kishin Eggs' and the omission of about 50% of the first fight against Free up untill that point. After that fight against Mosquito the changes become outrageous though.

I had no problem with Maka doing her courage/bravey punch at the end. I noticed this is one of the main complaints on the ending. Imo, they way they explained the setup made sense and was pretty unique even for typical shounen finisher attack.

I was just disappointed how the rest of the final episode was executed. Spirit, Sid, Death, etc was just reduced to making the same comments they made 5 minutes previously ("she could maybe beat Kishin with uber scythe move zomg!11"). Soul basically ending up useless..again. Black Star getting beat offscreen. Felt too much was sacrificed to make Maka shine the most in her spotlight. Then speedrush epilogue/credits combo, bleh.

Overall Just felt like Soul Eater lost stream after first half or so episodes. Even the fight scenes lack intensity (yeah, yeah Anime Original stuff but too much of a cop-out nowadays), i.e. compared Black Star vs. Mifune second fight (with the opening music insert) against their final fight. The latter was typical drawn out shouen fight nonsense where as earlier the fight scenes were much more fast pace.

7/10 Overall.

I say perfect 10. I loved the whole series, with the exception of a weak ending, it was still fantastic overall and by far my favorite anime.
