she's a character in a couple of side story volumes and the leader of a religious group, despite being 12-years old. I heard she's the author's favorite.

new testament migth refer that its no longer touma's story, he seems too knolegdable now, so he migth now about his true powers making him not fitable(too hax) for beign a main character now.

If this season gets end with SS1, a wild idea will be if they start the third season with Stiyl SS (winter clothes are there afterall) and next they go with Vol. 14 to Vol18 with will make a total of 5 volumes with a fair number of episodes + the SS which won't be more of 3 episodes.

i thought a season 3 would best end at V.19 and a season 4 ends on V.22

Actually, It is still Gabriel, but it's Gabriel using Michael's name, a result of the mix up from the Angel Fall spell.

it's the start of new testament, which will follow a more typical novel format(meaning no more individual story arcs), so pretty much introduction

Actually, she first appeared in the Stiyl SS that was serialized in the earlier volumes of Dengeki Bunko Magazine.　The SS that came with that came with the Index DVDs was the Railgun SS.

Heavy Object is another novel. The manga is an adaptation.
