Use IE (Internet Explorer). If you use Mozilla or its variants, the contents of the thread there aren't visible. I suspect it is due to the use of style sheets which Mozzie isn't able to process.

Yes, he is Barry the Chopper! Which is why I said that Arakawa-sensei really threw a nice spinball here. The Body of Barry the Chopper vs the Soul of Barry the Chopper (but is the latter the real soul? How can a body exist without a soul?!)

Well, it should be interesting to see how Barry's body is like without a soul... And the more you think about it, the more questions it raises. Just how important is the soul for the body? Just what is the definition of a soul in this manga? How will a body without a soul behave? (My guess is that Barry's body will be kinda like a zombie, with no thoughts or will. I also think Barry will be very happy to see his body. XD)

I read in a couple of the threads that homunculi are created after failed human transmutations, but what confuses me is that in the blind alchemist gaiden, the alchemist performed human transmutation but the wierd thing that normally results from human transmutations stayed weird looking and no homunculus resulted. Does that mean that something else has to be done to make a homunculus?

The failed human transmutation storyline giving birth to the Sins is the Anime's storyline (BONES' idea). The manga has a different reason and story for the Sins' creation (Arakawa-sensei's original intent & story).

Just a note. Homunculus is an artificial human. As such, the Elrics in making their mother did make a homunculus. However theirs was a failure (hence the montrosity). Any Human Alchemy in trying to create a human actually istrying to create a Homunculus.

I've wanted to read the manga for a while now and after finally d/l some I wanted to ask how big the difference between the anime and manga is? I also was curious as to how far ahead the manga is compared to the anime.

You can not really compare how far ahead the manga is to the anime because after the elrics meet their teacher the anime storyline and the manga storyline split and become very different.

After reading vol. 31 I was curious as to how homunculus are created by that weird man in the chair if he appears to not be abel to move out of it? Also, what was it that he was drinking in the end was it liquified greed or wine?

Just read a chinese scanlation of 36. So unless the forensic pathologist is in cahoots with Roy, everyone's favorite Flame Alchemist really toasted Maria. Poor Roy, I wonder what will you do when you discover the truth.

Nice scene with Winry and the Hughes. Too bad there were no sparks in the subsequent Ed-Winry scene. *coughs evilly*

If you take his words as true, then it is liquefied Greed which is also part of his (Father's) soul. He imbued the Sins with parts of his soul when he created them. I suspect a sort of distilling out the sins from himself into the Homunculi. So in a way Greed had a soul... not whole but still a soul...

Just a thought. Roy did ask for all known records/information on Maria Ross. Imagine what that can mean...

sorry scrumhalf but there was no direct hinted romance in the scene. basically what happens is that winry finds out about hughes's death and she is crying in her room. edward knocks on the door. winry opens it. edward tells winry that the restruant will be closed soon so she better go get dinner now. edward advises winry that not eating is unhealthy for her. (well at least he cares) edward is about to leave but winry stops him. she invites him in. it turns out she wants to show him a pie she baked for hughes. edward is annoyed that he just had dinner and now he probably has to eat the pie. winry explains that she made the pie in hughes's house when she visted hughes's wife and elysia earlier that day after she found out about hughes death. she said that she learned the recipe from hughes's wife and ever since then was determined to make the best tasting pie for hughes to eat. but now she says hughes will not be able to eat what she had tried so hard to accomplish. as she breaks down crying, a very sad looking edward (despite his already full tummy) eats the first slice. and that was pretty much it.

I think there was. Ed was blushing when she pulled him into her room. XD
He was probably annoyed when he found out that she only wanted him to try the pie she made.
Plus, you could really tell in that scene that Ed cares about her, when he tells her he thinks it's delicious.
C'mon, how can you get any mushier than that. As a girl, I was continually squealing through-out that scene.
