Last Story director confirmed, source andriasang, original source nintendo.co.jp
I always thought he was the director for all Mistwalker titles, but apparently he hasn't directed/made a title since FFV.

I really hope this game would succeed. It's up against great odds since it's a hardcore game on a Wii, that's going to throw a lot of people off.

Sakaguchi I hope you know what you're doing.

It is probably as hardcore as FF or every other JRPG, which is not hardcore at all ^^. Correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't core or hardcore only refers to online games, or lan games, where you play against human players in a competitive style, like counter-strike?

Has this come to anyone's mind by the way?
Hironobu Sakaguchi, the person who came up with Final Fantasy because his previous games weren't succesful,
is currently developing a game called Last Story, maybe due to the fact that Mistwalker's games haven't been that good until now.

Is this just a conincidence, am I looking too far into things, or may a certain Japanese guy be a little superstitious? :O

No, it refers to games that only people who are really into video games like to play. Like most fighting games and shoot 'em ups.

Hardcore is such a naive and broad term, tastes variate on such a high degree.

A lot of updates have been posted on anoop's blog/site, andriasang.com, but this entry is quite neat, 2nd PV, ripped from the nintendo channel. Since you are on th blog, you might want to read the listed "RELATED CONTENT", i.e "Magic Circle" System and "The Last Story's Massive Town and Surprising Camerawork", a summary/translation of Iwata Asks column.
If you can still remember from the first Iwata Asks entry about The Lasty Story, it was revealed that Sakaguchi is directing this game. Here in the 2nd column, Kimihiko Fujisaka, character designer in Drakengard, is/was being revealed involved as the game's concept artist and character designer.

More on Battle modes (complete manual and auto), read it on andriasang.com

Another Iwata asks column, find a summary of it onandriasang.com
This time they discuss how working on the wii was like, and how they received a no go from nintendo during the development/prototyping process.

Sorry for the late reply. I think you misinterpreted what I meant by hardcore. I don't know how that term came to be or how technical it is meant to be. How I see it is, excuse me for such a vulgar explanation, very similar to softcore porn and hardcore porn. One's more casual and easy, the other takes up more time and is more...explicit.

An example of a casual game would be Wii Fit, an example of a hardcore game would be Gears of War. Sometimes hardcore games have an expanded casual community like Halo and Modern Warfare that's more in the grey zone of things. Counter Strike is definitely a hardcore FPS game, the clan matches and online community is one of THE MOST serious in the current gaming industry.

Anyway, most of the time JRPGs are time-consuming hardcore games even if they are flashy and have an expanded market like FF. Games like these usually don't do well on the Wii mainly because that's not really the Wii's user base. Which is why you usually only see first-party Nintendo games and casual third party games (like Just Dance) to do well on the Wii. Other games are usually ignored and perform poorly. I am worried that The Last Story would follow the same fate simply because the user base would reject it.

Hopefully they would pull a Tales of Graces and put it on the PS3 with the Move, but I highly doubt that since there's conflict between Sony and Sakaguchi (i think?).

Not really, but this game is actually co-developed by mistwalker and nintendo, so there is no chance that this game will make it on a non-nintendo platform, unless SCEI and nintendo merges or one takes over the other company. Even if sony buys out mistwalker, i don't think this game can be made available on a sony console, unless nintendo gives its OK, see goldeneye, eternal darkness and whatever. Unlike Tales of graces, NHM, 428 and other purely third party developed and owned IPs, The Last Story has nintendo staff involvement and money.

Yup it's co-developed by nintendo, so... if you want to see it outside of a nintendo platform you gotta convince them to sell the rights
