Does the earth give a shit about a piece of paper in some courthouse somewhere?

Next we'll have people arguing over who owns the Moon. "The US was there first!" and all kinds of idiocy.

World's first colour moving pictures discovered

Quote:
The world's first colour moving pictures dating from 1902 have been found by the National Media Museum in Bradford after lying forgotten in an old tin for 110 years.

The discovery is a breakthrough in cinema history.

Only a handful of countries ever ratified the Moon Treaty, none of which had space travel capabilities. The Indians are signatories but have not ratified the document.

On the other hand, it's not clear a separate Moon Treaty is really necessary as the Moon falls under the jurisdiction of the Outer Space Treaty which most nations, including the space-faring countries, have signed. It bans nuclear weapons and other "weapons of mass destruction" from Earth orbit and stationing on the Moon, though orbiting conventional weapons are permissible. ("Killer" satellites are the most obvious such weapons.) It declares space and the Moon the "common heritage of all Mankind" and forbids the establishment of terrortorial claims by the signatories.

The US has never ratified the Law of the Seas Treaty that it helped draft because of persistent opposition by right-wing Republicans who reject the Treaty as "socialist" and a restraint on American sovereignty. But then exploitation of marine resources is an ongoing activity now, rather than a science-fiction concept like exploitation of the Moon or outer space.

The only case where collective management of a terrestrial "commons" has been relatively successful is Antarctica. How long that would survive were it to become economical to exploit subterranian resources on the Continent is anyone's guess.

Ah, but Japan had porno drawings since the Edo era!
No pesky Church nonsense to get in our way of smut.

Fapping to drawings is like, our heritage.

DonQuigleone wins points. "Sam Bacile" is a Coptic Christian. Yep, someone framed the Jews.

Federal authorities have identified a Coptic Christian in southern California who is on probation after his conviction for financial crimes as the key figure behind the anti-Muslim film that ignited mob violence against U.S. embassies across the Mideast, a U.S. law enforcement official told The Associated Press on Thursday.

The easy way would be finding an old map, from around the 1850s, I guess. Prior to the Japanese annexation of that Kingdom.

Finding said map...that is trickier due to age.

But as mentioned, those islands were under US control, and all the islands under control by that civil administration were handed over to Japan. That should be the end of the story. Debating on if they should be considered part of the Ryukyu Islands Chain is really a moot point if they were administered under that name.

Just be thankful that most people don't call them by their old western names...The Pinnacle Islands.

Also the last inhabitation of the islands was Japanese: Koga Tatsushirō's bonito processing plant from 1900 - 1940.

It is more fun for the US to watch and point while keeping the Chinese and Japanese from being friendly with each other.

So what do you propose the US do at this point? Should it say it made a mistake in 1972 and now supports the claims of the Chinese? Which Chinese? The PRC? Taiwan? Do you think the PRC would be any happier if the US forced Japan to give them to Taiwan? I doubt seriously that Japan would cede control to the PRC, and the government in Beijing would see granting sovereignty over the islands to Taiwan as a major affront.

So rather than just cricitising the US for "ducking all responsibility" as you put it, what would you have the US do?

tell japan to give it back to US by Right of Conquest, then tell anyone who wants those island, they can fight the US for it.

PS. given those islands to Taiwan back in the 1970s would not make the PRC any happier but it would defuse the issue as it currently stands with Japan.

By the 1970s Taiwan was not a recognized country anymore.
