Natsu wants us to sit away from the television in a brightly lit room. I don't know why they decided to introduce one of these things this late in the game. He looked kind of kiddy there.

The opening has a lot of new characters while the ending seems to have this arcs characters. Maybe the new opening will last a bit longer.

And Yes I know that Japanese L and R are interchangable and I'm still suffering from the whole Erza (Ezra) vs Elsa (Esla) thing.

Meh the 2nd OP just screams low budget, lots of stills, pans and reused scenes... really disappointed in the production values for this show.. heck I was excited when I saw A-1 got this.. I'll even prefer Pierrot now...

I actually find the new OP less BUDGETy than the first, which was so crappy it had to be redrawn after a few eps. Even then, the cheap looping segments after "oh yeah, oh yeah" stuck out worse than the still shots in the new one.

How can A-1 and Satelight get any cheaper than they are right now? I mean A-1 has So-Ra-No-Wo-To coming out, and it's looking really good, so why does Fairy Tail get the crappy treatment? It can't be the budget, they clearly have enough money, and FT is a popular manga. Is it because it's a shonen? It can't be. The big three gets there share of great animators at times, such as Norio Matsumoto and Noriyuki Matsutake. Shinji Ishihira isn't even trying to get good animation directors for FT or anything. As for the opening, you see for the majority of it is reused scenes from the anime or just stills, and the opening should have better animation than the series for the most part.

The good part of the opening is when Gazille was fighting Natsu, that was great, even though it was for like 2 seconds. See what happens when you actually make characters move. Episode 12 was probably the best animated episode yet in my opinion. I thought the the pacing was a little too fast for my liking. A little more serious in this episode, which I like. Lastly, the ending didn't kill the end of the episode, which was great.

If FT is going to get better, they can either fire Ishihira, or another studio can somehow pick it up.

Well Since I've already gotten past the whole "still scenes and what not" stuff, all I can say is its another great FT ep so not much to say really.

The new OP and ED are not bad, I still like the fact they keep with the chibi art style for the ED

But ED shows us where we will get to with the anime...hopefully

Cherish those two seconds and expect them in loops if FT amvs are made

The still ice suddenly multiplying really takes still battles to a whole new level, ruined the entire Gray/Leon fight for me. The OP and ED are indeed better, although I still think the OP was replaced too soon...oh, and although it doesn't matter much, Natsu's snoring SFX was somehow off. Yeah I'm weird, I know o_0
At least the music's getting richer with each episode!

Oh, and they finally got rid of the narrator intro! There wasn't a peep from the narrator during the episode either. It's probably too much to hope they're getting rid of him permanently...

New Opening wasn't bad, new ending is better, the animated shots for each were very nice to see as well, along with a certain short silver-haired girl making an appearance in animated form, which is good since I always liked her character. As for the episode itself, very nicely paced, lot of fleshing out of the characters, good insert song there in the middle, the VA for everyone including the minor characters is still top-notch and one of the most positive aspects of the series, action was also good enough despite a lot of them being stills, but overall just a really solid episode and I can't wait for more. LoL at the scene with Erza btw

Song was not bad, the scenes was good.
Opening have already show Phantom lord storyline
Gajeel looks so tough, But is his eyes red?
Why just only Gajeel?
First ending was Lucy, now is Natsu and Happy
Lucky is just minor character why she is with in the last opening scenes.

Lyra song was nice
Although I said combat fight motion was not enough animation, but magic fight was good.

Official glossary says Ul, so I use Ul.

I think Uru would look a bit better but Ul's how the author wanted it.

The missing narrator is a good point, the small segments before the OP and after the ED with Natsu and Happy respectively somehow remind me of Gintama...
@ Ravelt: you can see some people behind the Raditz look-alike as shadows, they're easy to make out.

Seeing one of my favorite characters animated, Lyra was such a treat, and being voiced by Nakajima Megumi, who also did the singing part, double treat! The song was even better then i expected, so i hope it appears on the first soundtrack. Don't want to have to wait to long for that. Flashbacks with Ur (Sawashiro Miyuki fits her well) were done nicely, especially the first one with the very fitting piano piece. Also like Kaji Yuuki for Lyon. Animation went up a little bit during the last battle, which was good. Hope it carries on. Strange how the character design for the main pirate on the ship was changed... New OP is great, especially with the scenes that show later events in the story. Song is decent, just like the new ED. The new ED fits a lot better then the first, which is good news. Spoiler for Episode 12: The start was extremely funny especially the part where they said Lucy forced them to take the quest. I liked Lyra and her song plus she knows stuff about magic. Chibi!Gray was cute and I liked his reactions to everyone in this episode. IMO this episode made Gray a more interesting fleshed out character, showed Lucy as a more perceptive character, expanded Natsu as a comic relief character and introduced Happy as a serious character. The scene where he was transporting Lucy was extremely touching and I assumed would be beyond his role as mascot. Lyon is interesting enough. I liked how they made his eyes show his personality etc so well. His minions don't seem that interesting though beyond there surface quirks though.I'm a bit disappointed that they're shoehorning Erza into the arc. I'm afraid she might take Gray's thunder just so they can put all 4 mains into the arc. Battle scenes though? Well... __________________ MAL Profile

Don't think it was needed to replace the first OP since it was pretty good, but new one isn't bad. Get deeper into Gray's character and his past. Pretty clear now what went down back then. Gray went to defeat something way beyond his level and it took everything Ul had to stop Deliora. Now you have to two views of the apprentices that remain. One wanting to revive Deliora, defeat it, and surpass Ul. While the other will do everything possible to stop it and not make that sacrifice meaningless. A nice song from Lyra. Pretty nice for Lucy to have a singer you can call up when you want a performance (within a limitation of 3 times a month ). Also a handy source of information. Though I suppose a magical being like her would have insights into magics like that. Only downside were the fights mostly being stills. Still plenty that should happen in this arc so we'll have to see. Though with Erza coming Gray, Natsu, Happy, and Lucy are doomed . __________________ Anime-Evo
