KOTOKO has to be one of the best j-pop singers ever.
I've been already impressed by her singing of Kannaduki no Miko's ending theme, but after hearing her perform HnG's first intro - she's just too good!

Kotoko is amazing.. even the cheesy dating game OPs ... actually taht is where I first learned of her .. "Kyururun Kiss de Jyanbo" (Colorful Heart game from Giga) and "Sakuranbo Kiss" (Colorful Kiss from Giga)... when I was watching some OP sequence subs by a translation group I wish was still together.
I was really sad that Kotoko's live dvd or the 2004 Christmas tour ... the Japanese release had all the finalies that had all that music... didn't make it to the Geneon released US version. Oh well... because of that also got to miss the introduction of Californian playing in her group (quite funny little interview if you know a little bit of Japanese) It was a real treat to get to see Kotoko at A-Kon in Dallas 2006.... and get my CD autographed... but I really wish she'd tour in a few real music venues instead of just the convention center. Kotoko is probably my 2nd favorite japanese group. I don't think I'll ever get tired of her music or performances. |

I really liked KOTOKO's lighter works like being, Hayate no Gotoku (both OPs), and Shooting Star, but she seems to be moving away from her old style with recent singles like Chercher and Real Onigokko, which is really a shame.

Don't know if I've posted here before or not, but I LOVE KOTOKO and I'VE Sound in general. Personally, I like her trance/techno tracks best (think Face of Fact/Abyss), but her denpa stuff (like Raspberry/Princess Brave) can be fun, too. And, while I like her anime music, I feel it lacks the UMPH her game music has.
Oh, also! I don't know if it's been mentioned, but I've Sound Explorer has opened up voting for best song of the year. There are quite a few KOTOKO & anime songs up for voting, so you may want to place a vote: http://www.ivesound.jp/vote/index.php

I think you're not really hearing a difference in her singing style, but rather a change in the arrangement style. Her singing style hasn't really changed all these years, but Kazuya Takase (one of the composers/arrangers in I've Sound) has started to change his style to become more "modern", and he's not the only one making music for her now, either, as I've Sound has started to use more people.
