Hey? Anyone have a summary of the latter half of volume 6 and all of volume 7?

Does anyone at least have a status report on Anri-san, like what she's been doing in volume 6 and 7? From the looks of things she distanced herself from Mikado, and we have all that crap happening to him which made him to who he is in vol. 8.

If you want any info on Volume 6 & 7, it's best to read Anni's LJ as she translating the books.

As for Anri, I don't know, but she hasn't distance herself from Mikado, in fact it's quite the opposite.

Anni is sort of my only source for the actual translations, but has stopped midway of Volume 6 (though she has been translated snippets here and there in 7 and 8) .

Between Anri and Mikado, are they really getting close? As in Anri trying to aid Mikado in some way or at least knowing something about the that "deal" he made with Aoba and the internal Dollars cleansing?

I'm thinking that they haven't left each other as Maosami once did, but they haven't gotten much closer after volume 3 (They may know who the other is in a sense, but don't really seek to elaborate till Kida comes back... by the time he did in volume 7-8 it was already too late).

It's like they remained friends in a sense of what G.K. Chesterton once wrote:

Comradeship is obvious and universal and open; but it is only one kind of affection; it has characteristics that would destroy any other kind. Anyone who has known true comradeship in a club or in a regiment, knows that it is impersonal.

(Well... minus the open part, but definitely impersonal to an extent).

A little off topic, there's something I read in another forum that she's starting to realize her feelings for both Kida and Mikado... and her demon sword is taking notice too.

Think it happened right after the Mikado/Kida reuninion in volume 8, after Mikado leaves and Anri finds Kida. She asks him what's going on which Kida, with a smile, tells her nothing's wrong and that everything will be alright.

There's also Naime's uncle targeting her (along with Ruri and Celty w/ head and body) with Yadogiri's help.

I thought they were boyfriends and girlfriends, but they were kind of lukewarm towards each other - or at least far from lovey-dovey.

I feel like they're something more than friends, but not yet lovers.

There's too much formality between them for them to have been childhood friends. But it doesn't look like they're just friends either.

Since I already addressed the first part (I will add the Anri is on a first name basis with Mikado now) I'II talk about the second part.

I don't know much about what's going on in Vol.8, but you said is more or, less what I have heard. As far as I know, she doesn't know anything about Mikado and Blue Squares only that he's changed which worries her, the visit to talk to Celty and Shinra to get advice. Mikado isn't saying anything to her about it because he likely doesn't what her getting caught up in the crossfire and being used by Aoba. It's the same with Masaomi only he knows now.

On Anri and Saika:

There's many hints throughout books 4-8 that show Saika is getting stronger the longer she's around Mikado and Masaomi, furthermore, Vol.8 imply at her role becoming larger in the grand scheme of things espeically with Jinrai being revealed as being the one who gave Saika to Shingen.

Why exactly is Izaya telling Mikado to not hang out with anybody in Dollars and to not get involved with Dollars? Is he just trying to mess with Mikado and Aoba or does he have some sort of goal?

I don't know if it has been directly stated or not but I'm just confused about Izaya's purpose in doing this.

It seem like Izaya originally wanted to have Mikado distanced from Aoba's machinations and avoid his plans potentially going astray. It's not coincidence that he does this the day before Aoba makes he's proposal.

I doubt that, if anything Izaya is trying to push him in the same direction also which is why he had the kidnapping in Vol.6 occur. Izaya likely doesn't know what Aoba's plans are but he rather not have Aoba and Mikado get close and damage his.

Remember his goal is still to awaken Celty's head and he plans to have Mikado playrole in that just like before, only he's now drawing the Yakuza and more gangs in the conflict.

So how different is the anime compared to the light novel? I'm guessing a lot, but with Baccano! I was pretty sure I was missing a lot given how open ended the ending was and they had odd character in the first episode (girl with a spear).

Does the light novel go further than what is shown in the anime or have an entirely different plot? Judging from some comments minor characters in the anime are more fleshed out in the novel such as Izaya's sisters, but what else?

I haven't read volumes 1-3 of the novel (which is what the anime covers), but, from what I've heard, it's pretty much the same. I know there are some changes, but I wouldn't know too many of them. Things like Simon lecturing Izaya was different in the novels, and episode 6 of the anime was handled differently in the novel. The plot itself is the same, so a second season would be possible.

The anime only covered volumes 1-3, and there are nine novels so far, so it does go farther. Like I said, from what novels were adapted, the plot is the same. As for Izaya's sisters, they first showed up in volume 4, so the anime didn't leave anything out about them. Very minor characters in the anime, like Shiki from Awakusu-kai, are more fleshed out in later novels as well.

If you want to check the novels out, they are translated online. I'm pretty sure volume 1 is completely translated, and volumes 4-6 are also translated.

Wow sounds awesome that there is so much content available for another anime. Still there would be limiting factors such as starting a project to make another season and then the time to make it, but it's great to here the content is not a problem. I'll read it when I have time as I doubt I'll be able to wait for it to be made into an anime.

I'm wondering what happen to Saki in detail after the anime? When I was reading through the pages I only see very little information about her in the spoiler tags.

She left Ikebukuro with Kida at the end of the anime and, as far as I know, hasn't returned since (although she might be in the chat room now, there's almost a dozen people in it last I checked).

Thanks, I was wondering if she did anything significant when she left with Kida. So no character development or anything in the novels about her?

I haven't read all the translations but I think Kida only returned to Ikebukuro in volume eight or nine so both of them have been pretty quiet honestly. I think I did hear that they were working for Izaya somehow but even then I don't know exactly what they were doing.

I've only just finished vol 4...and there's one thing that bugged me

Who is this Tsukumoya Shinichi? Will it be explained it later volume? Is he one of the characters that appeared in this volume?
