Yoshino and Touma were knocked out in the first round while Uchida [236 votes] was knocked out in the second round against Lucky Star's Kagami [734] (overall winner), and Mizore [150] from Rosario and Vampire. All did fairly well in their groups. Got at least second place in groups of three.

Now that I look it up, Kana had the mos votes at of all the Minami-ke characters. Though after Okaeri I suspect Chiaki will do better than last year. (Of course Haruka is known for defeating the standing champion of 2007, Rika Furude by one vote).
Winning over Mio, whatever the reasons, should be noteworthy too.

Imagine if that competition took traps. I imagine the champions would occasionally be very humorous.

If anyone is wondering which chapters are used in which episode, I compiled a list here, and each episode here. on the Minami-ke wiki.

Considering how many chapters go it each season (more than 2 volumes), a 4th season is quite a ways away(unless there is a lot of original content like S2). Right now there is enough chapters for 4 OVAs.

Poor Yoshino. I had no idea strike witches was that popular.

Also, yes, we'll be waiting a long time for a 4th season, especially since the author has already announced another volume of 5-2, and some new fantasy manga, so I assume work on minami-ke will slow.

Well, three Minami-ke characters continue on the Round 2 of Saimoe (Atsuko is still up for Round 1 tomorrow, but chances are shaky there) Chiaki, Kana, and Touma Minami are continuing at this point.

It? The thread is for Okaeri, the third regular season. But there was also Betsubara, the OVA released soon after which also is talked about in this thread.

Might as well take this moment to mention that Chiaki is the last one standing after both Kana and Touma lost.

She seems to hate vegetables in general. Something a ten or so year old would still do.

And yes, Chiaki is all that is left in Saimoe, but she's got a shot at getting through her block....if she can get past the one Saki character.

If she does I believe she makes top 16? Which I believe would be the farthest any character has every gotten.
Of course "Saki character" right now seems pretty dangerous.

Tomorrow begins Minami-ke's last stand in Saimoe. Chiaki Minami up against a Rie Kugimiya voiced Saki loli character that likes Tacos.

EDIT: Now today

The rare happy Chiaki

"Bakayaro"

Just to give this thread arc a coda, Chiaki lost to "tacos".
I knew it would happen eventually, but it always sucks.
*prepares for fourth season in 3 years*
Note: Not based on anything but my own speculation.

Can't say she didn't try.

No more Minami-ke in the main Saimoe until they come out with something new (as the OVA came out before the cutoff for this year rather than after to fit into next year). But Chiaki's performance has given her a shot at ISML again, and who knows what the Koreans will do....Super Best Moe...males and females....well it likely give Hosaka one more shot at immortality for his Curry Song.

Since the manga is still going, and the DVDs sold fairly well from what I understand, I wouldn't count Minami-ke out. They'll be back.

Well I have hard numbers (which I'd rather not source):
Each volume of minami-ke season 1 sold roughly 9000 copies in the first week
Okawari and Okaeri both sold roughly 4100

In comparison, K-On vol. 1 sold over 50000 (best ever I think), Haruhi first season vol.1 was 28000 something, endless eight vol.1 is 14000 and counting (presumably vol.2,3, etc. will have horrific numbers). Clannad AS 1 was 16000.

Closest comparisons I have are Queen's blade vol. 4 (4510) and Tales of the Abyss 8 (3762). Shikabane Hime Aka sold 900ish back in the day.

It's worth keeping in mind that the jump between shows like Haruhi and whatever is below is huge, so that 9000 for season one places it at the far upper end of the pack, and on the cusp of reaching upper-tier.

4100 is solidly...mediocre, which means new seasons depend pretty much on whether a studio feels like picking it up. (Come on, Doumu, you know you want to...)

On the other hand, at this point that 4100 will probably buy any dvd labeled minami-ke, so making a season is basically a guarenteed 4100+whatever you can mojo from doing a better job. If I were a small studio (such as asread...) desperate for dependable cash flow I probably would (either that or go all out on some experimental production hoping to hit the jackpot).

But yeah, the real issue is to wait a couple of years for new manga material.

Disclaimer: I've basically already given every number I know, and this is all speculation based on that. There might be numbers somewhere proving me horribly wrong.

For those interested, it seems that there's a group subbing all three drama cd's (and maybe some other stuff).

That is all.

So...in his circumstances of being entrapped, he finds freedom and redemption in being himself and acting how he wants? Because otherwise I don't see how Makoto is going to grow up, end up in jail, etc...

Symbolic version? But what form is freedom? Makoto who Chiaki seems to becoming tsundere towards (the three legged race)...or Mako-chan, who seems to be having for freedom in the Minami household? He is trapped by Mako-chan...but does he really need to escape from Mako-chan, or does be need to enbrace being Mako-chan?
