Here's my take - why the hell are children at ages where they are more or less incapable of thinking for themselves being forced to pledge their allegiance to the country? Sounds like a bunch of horseshit to me, secular or religious.

The "under God" bit is a relatively recent addition, unrelated to the founding of your country. If it was added 50 years ago because of the cold war, it can be taken off now that it's over, can't it? Heck, you're supposedly a free, democratic country. Why would they have to "suck it up"? It's their right to campaign for whatever they want.

I'd also like to note that France is a Christian country. It's been called the [Roman Catholic] Church's little sister. But we sure as hell don't bring up God on every occasion.

Yeah, I mean it's not like the founding fathers put something in the constitution forbidding the state from promoting one religion over others.

The Constitution prevents the State (Federal government) but not the states. The right to establish, or disestablish, an offical religion for a state (little S) is totally within their rights. My only issue with that is the "Under God" thing. As to the rest, it's so that they actually like the country they're living in.

And I mean America's not too horrible when you compare it to the rest of the world.

Article 4 Section 2:

"The citizens of each state shall be entitled to all privileges and immunities of citizens in the several states."

14th amendment section 1:

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

In other words, states can't violate a right that the federal government grants its citizens. Thus, states cannot violate a person's right to freedom of religion anymore than the federal government can.

I have no idea how you can claim that. Here is a direct quote (and my source):

Politics is a slippery rope. Although this legislature is laudable, once passed, its ramifications can bring about a lot of sh***.

yea but the idea that 2d kids are more important that real ones is still asinine. The implications of the passing of legislation isn't even dealing with the real issue of abuse of REAL children, but yea the point of the legislation bringing is true but the governments priorities are really out of place.
