The only thing I went wtf is the ages of the people. 13 for the MC and 14 for the butterfly queen. Lol anime with their age again

Me thinks that people are getting too hung up on the fact that the main character isn't the usual "normal looking (but actually bishounen when it matters) and kind hearted but awkward male harem hero". Some don't even give it a watch before judging it (this is what I really don't understand...)
Also, it's funny since this isn't a harem anyway. Give it a watch. You like it, then you like it. You don't, then you don't. No harm. no foul and all those pretty words... |

Accel World is neither - it's not a sitcom type comedy with a string of non-stop gags nor is it ultra-serious with all it's fanservice. Accel World is for most part your "fantasy" wish-fulfillment type show, that's what it's being marketed as anyway, hence it's protagonist is very unusual. Would it kill the show, I don't know. Would it have been better if they just used the usual "vulnerable loser bishounen", IMHO probably.

Really guise? He's like one of the most original looking MC in a while And his design is probably to response to the typical otaku japanese fans anyway. Main MC like that make them more comfortable than some cool, hot, super hero dude or something. Who care what he look like as long as the anime is good? Beside am I the only one that find him cute....He look like the meat bun type that you want to hug...:P
