I probably should have been more specific. In terms of character names I know AKeep is right. What I was referring to was the grammer and sentence structure. For instance:

AKeep
"I always accept only a smiling cash payment"

Lunar
"I always demand a cheerful cash payment"

Akeep's version just sounds awkward. While Lunar is a bit better. I would have edited it to "I always accept a cash payment with a smile"

But I don't know japanese and I'm not sure if i'm changing the meaning of what is said. Also I've only watched a little of AK's version so maybe this is just one case.

This anime is so ridiculous, it's hilarious. I mean can you really watch one of Rusyuna's (sp?) fight scenes without cracking up? :P I'm glad not all animes are 100% serious.

So, is there anything actually worth d/lding this fall? The first episode of Grenadier wasn't exactly what I call intriguing ... looks like this show is smth for teenage boys who are a little concerned about the measures of their female classmates. Let's see: we'll cross two well established genres (samurai/gunslinger) and add a set of extraordinarily developed juggs, and that's about it. Some people might find this entertaining, others (you know, the ones who are allowed to order drinks at a bar or have a drivers licence ) just shrug it off and delete it from their harddrives to get more space for quality stuff.
Which is still damn hard to find. One of the arguments I always use to defend my 'despicable' need for anime against my friends' criticism is that most of the genre is aimed for a more mature audience than the average western cartoon.
It's just too bad that the average anime aims for 13-year-olds, opposed to the western cartoons which try to entice grade school kids. Big difference. Take away the sexual innuendo and you got the same boring super-hero stuff in another disguise.

Strange, I'm one of those and I like watching grenadier -_- Mostly because it's amusing, and mostly because my sense of humour seems to be intact.

I don't see where this "sexual innuendo" that you're taking about is. There's really not much being insinuated in this series besides the possibility of hiding items in your cleavage. I'm much more likely to keep a copy of this series on my harddrive over a much more popular series like Naruto. Who knows though, perhaps I'm one of those supposedly hard to find drivers license holders that actually appreciates the light-heartedness of this anime.

As a matter of fact, I'm quite happy for you that you can still appreciate anime without substance. I'm getting more and more disillusioned with this genre. Well, it really depends on how you see/'use' anime. If you use it as a pasttime to relax after a hard day's work, 'Grenadier' is quite ok. If you try to see it as a medium to stimulate any brain activity the series fails, of course. Btw, the latest Naruto eps suck ass. Since ep 50 or smth. Sure, I would keep 'Grenadier' when instead of this.

well, I don't see Naruto as a medium to stimulate any brain activity anyway, not before ep50, nor after... For Grenadier, it's still too early to tell, Trigun doesn't stimulate much brain activity for the first half of the series, nor does the first episode of EVA, or the first couple episodes of Narutaru, etc.

But then I'm fine with series which stimulate no brain activity, as long as they are fun to watch, for example the Slayers series

koei: You're mistaking Translation for Editting. I agree in that instance that Keep should have had some better editting. "I only accept a smiling cash payment" would have been what I would go with -- sounds good in English, but still retains all of the original meaning of the translation.

Same here, I'm fine with watching series that aren't intellectually thought provoking as long as they're done well. So far, Grenadier has been quite amusing. I can't claim to be all 'adult' and 'mature' like some other people, but that's just me -_-

I'm 26, with a DL, and I could drink although I prefer not to aside of a few social occasions / hollidays. Yet I like this anime. It is not somthing that you watch hoping to find the key to cold fusion true. Yet I watch anime mostly for entertianment. somthing to take my mind of the drudgery that is my job, ect. This anime does quite well in that.

Of course I also rather enjoy fan service. But I have always been one to prefer a dirty joke over a clean one. Fan service works well for a type of comic relif. Which is most of what this series is. A nice girl who wanders arround trying to make freinds with people that would kill and rape her for a dollar. Yet when they do not respond to her "smile" she shoots them.

so she wander the land as a hippy with a gun. Saying like me or :fingers: .

Exactly. If anime wasn't for entertainment, what would they be for? O.o

Please don't compare Slayers with Grenadier, 10 years from now we'll still talk about
Slayers and we'll forget Grenadier. This show is really uninspired and cliché. When
Anime like Juuni Kokkuki and GITS SAC exist, I can't understand how people can waste their time and "enjoy" a serie with no flavour.
Btw, I can understand for someone who isn't a veteran of anime, but with the time passing I can't watch stupid shows, I want more. Movies like Scary Movie can
be appreciated If you're 14 or a teen, but it's garbage for me ,it doesn't make me
laugh at all.

This is hard for me to say, but after watching episode 2 im beginning to like this show. I hated it at first, since it looked lame and just an excuse for some ecchi.

But after watching episode 2 im starting to like it, its really growing on me. Very few anime have really deep stories, most are nothing more than light relief, and thats fine. Shows like KGNE dont come along every day (thank god, i couldnt handle the emotional strain!!!!!) Sure, in ten years we may have forgotten about Grenadier, but you can honestly say that till the show is over.

A lot of shows start of really slow and ploding, but later become amazing. Give the show a chance and judge when its over.

And for the record im definatly out of my teens, since im 27, drunk most of the time, and crash my car atleast twice a week :P Doesnt mean im not able to enjoy this show.

Watch it for what it is, a bit of light relief and fun, rather than try to make it a serious thing.

*goes for another beer*

*shrugs* I've been watching anime for 10 years now and I still find it amusing. But then again, I'm the sort of person who likes watching B movies and laughing at them. It's your own personal taste, however, it doesn't really mean that one is more intellectual or more mature if they don't find this amusing to say the least.

10 years from now? Slayers will be long forgotten. I don't think the current generation of anime fans even know about Slayers or Captain Taylor or Ranma or Kimagure Orange Road. Instead, they're caught up in Love Hina (accursed anime) and Naruto and Dragonball and godknowswhatelse -_- We (or at least my generation) might remember it, but human memory is a fickle thing.

well, if you are a "veteran of anime", then you should have already watched Juuni Kokkuki and GITS SAC, and if you don't watch Grenadier, what animes do you watch to pass time now? When you watch animes at least 3 hours a day and spend entire weekends watching animes, you'll run out of those "great intellectually stimulating" shows pretty fast (actually you'll run out of all anime shows pretty fast, I'm now even dling Futakoi which I didn't think I'll watch another episode). Also shows like Grenadier can help relieve the stress of a day's work pretty good, instead of some deep thought-provoking shows. Personally I like to leave shows like Infinite Ryvius and Kino no Tabi to the weekends, that way I can enjoy them better with a clearer mind more focused on them instead of a numb mind after a day of work.

There really are no promising new animes this season. At first I held some hope for Gankutsu O but then when I found out it was produced by gonzo, I was somewhat skeptical. And by the 2nd episode, any faith I had that the show was going to be a decent retelling of Dumas's work was utterly and totally destroyed. But hey, that's Gonzo -_- they screw up classics. Too bad Elfen Lied ended already, so the only shows I like to watch now are Fafner, Grenadier and To Heart.

Depends on what your after really, personally i despise Fafner and want to burn it to the ground.

But there are plenty of good stuff on the go at the moment, Bleach, Kannaduki no Miko, Mamotte Shugogetten, Final Approach and WWish to name just a few.

As for Gankursu, this is anime, were you really expecting a true depiction of the classic? lol

Grenadier isnt all bad, just accept it for what it is, a piece of fun anime.

Even if you spend your entire weekends watching anime I find it hard to think that
you've run out of good anime. Why don't you try some great old school anime like
Lupin III.
Every person has different tastes but I rarely turn off my brain even after a long and
tiring day of work/study. I'm always analyzing what I see on the screen, or what is the meaning of the book I'm currently reading.
I can respect tastes but at the end it's allways the same answer :"Ilike girls bravo
cause it's funny" ;the people never give you other reasons cause they know deep inside
that these shows sucks. But they'll pay 200 bucks for the japanese DVD box set
cause there's more boobs or pussy or whatever. For those people please watch
porn or hentai trust me you'll feel better. Especially if the girls have body that really says "I'm over 18 years old"
I don't want to offend anybody but sometimes I'm scared when I browse these
forums and all I see is lolita avs and sigs like if everyone dreams of 13years old
heroines.
