Sayonara Piano Sonata [Light Novel]

Sayonara Piano Sonata
5 volumes, complete
Author: Hikaru Sugii (Kamisama no Memochou)
Illustrator: Ryo Ueda

Synopsis

Chiaki: Hey, why don't we start a rock band under the guise of a school club.

Unnamed Narrator Dude: No way, I hate K-on.

Mafuyu: Hello! I'm a mysterious transfer student.

Students: Aren't you Mafuyu Ebisawa, the famous classical musician child prodigy?

Mafuyu: No, absolutely not. I have no idea what you're talking about. Oh, it's you, Unnamed Narrator Dude. Hey, why are you ignoring me?

UND: You told me to forget we'd ever met.

Students: You know each other? When did you become cool, UND?

UND: Yeah, we encountered each other once--

Mafuyu: I told you to forget about it!

UND: Whatever, I'm going to lock myself in the music department's soundproof room and listen to rock music.

Mafuyu: Not if I lock myself in there first.

Kagurazaka: Oi! You two are going to join me and Chiaki in our band, or else.

UND: Why God? Why did you make me a light novel protagonist?
A few months ago it didn't look like KamiMemo would ever get translated, but now not only has Baka-Tsuki managed two volumes of that, but CE has has started another series by the same author. After reading the first volume of each, I think Sayonara Piano Sonata is better.

There's also a manga adaptation for this.

Such a shame people aren't more aware of this work.
The latest manga chapter was good, really good!

First I was like: oh no not another K-On story (this was after reading the synopsis) but now that I read the novel I must say I was surprised. I'm reading the manga now atm and I'm considering to buy the manga. Can someone tell me is the manga is already published in english? Because on baka-updates there is no english translation mentioned and mostly I believe baka-updates...

K-ON story?
The author is actually the author of Kamisama no Memochou.
I don't think it's licensed in English or it will ever be anytime soon.

Like I've said, how many works does this author have...

Personally, I prefer KamiMemo. But this isn't bad at all. And way better than K-ON!, which I don't particularly like.

It has good musical refs, BTW.

I've only read the first volume of each series so far, and with fan-translations it's always hard to compare, but I give the edge to Piano Sonata based upon the strength of the characters.

I really enjoyed the way the guitar duel between Mafuyu and the narrator was described -- I don't know much about musical composition or structure, but I found the battle tactics easy to follow. Which is ironic given how the CE translator kept saying he doesn't understand music either.

Yeah I know it was only because I read the synopsis of the manga at my anime list

I like manga art more than LN art. There's more of an edge to it and Mafuyu looks appropriately, well, bratty. Edgy and tsun-tsun, you could say. The main character also looks a lot less like a generic VN harem lead guy there, thank the gods.

That's mostly on character design though. No comment on material matters.

I only found two: KamiMemo and this.

Anyway, regarding the most recent chapter 11, it looks like they skipped the actual showdown. The novel actually detailed their dueling performance until Mafuyu collapsed, but the manga skipped over it entirely.

Sayonara Piano Sonata dives less in the human nature than KamiMemo though.

Kamimemo, Sayonara Piano Sonata, Hime no Miko, The Sword Queen and The Branded Child, Bakerano!, Sakura Familia!, Shion no Ketsuzoku and other one-shots. All of them in those past 5 years.

The duel was in chapter 10 wasn't it?

Are all of those listed one-shots other than KamiMemo and Sayonara Piano Sonata?

Hime no Miko was 2005...

@Shadow5YA Hime is a trilogy. Never touched the rest

I should pick up Sayonara Piano Sonata too especially since the actual topic of music is central in it....unlike K-ON! which was more like lazing around...

Does anyone know how copyright laws work? I was wondering if it's possible for this to get an anime.

In KamiMemo, Colorado Bulldog was supposed to be Narumi's ringtone, but they took that out in the anime. I was wondering if all these song references in Sayonara Piano Sonata would face copyright issues as well.

they are different for each country.

And i highly doubt this series will get a green light for anime.
It lacks the Ecchi / Action which series like this require for it to be green lite for anime.

There's more of that and romance than in Kamisama no Memochou, and that got an anime.

The second volume has a beach section, and Kagurazaka Kyouko is a lesbian.
