If you live in the US and haven't already seen this example of how to take on a challenge like re-imagining Holmes and Watson for the 21st century and do it right, the PBS Masterpiece website will be streaming the episodes online; at least until people start buying the DVDs and/or Blurays, I guess.

(Sadly, despite WNED technically covering southern Ontario, the video doesn't play here in Canada...)

So, anyone else get a look at it; and if so, any thoughts?
looks like Holmes for the Twilight crowd.

My favorite Holmes will always be Jeremy Brett.

This series (season 1 and 2) is definitively the BEST Sherlock Holmes ever created.

I'd say it's on par with the first season of Game of Thrones in how it just blows your mind.

The ending of S2 is mind-blowing. I really need to know how Sherlock does "that".

there many theory. most famous one is.

- he used rubbish bag on the track to soften the landing.
- use fake blood.
- then use "poison" that stop heart beat temporary so Watson think he is dead even after checking his heartbeat.
- after that hired doctor take him out

Eh? Don't know if I should be excited or not. I wonder about the character design

I think the character designs are great but not sure how I feel reading something I already experienced in the TV series, seems a bit redundant.

Plus the comic is not going to have Benedict's voice.

Still cool the BBC allowed this!

Anything that spreads modern day Sherlock around is good news for me.

I just watched the trailer. Err uh... well I'm not the fanboi type so if it's good I don't care; they haven't made the mortal sin of calling it "Sherlock Season 3" anyway. Also funny thing, the trailers for Sherlock looked like full on crap the first time I saw them too, took me a few nudges from trusted sources to get me to give them a chance, so basically nothing new here. It's also an american series so you know., gotta go in with a open mind... ie. expect some things to suck.

According to wikipedia it's not out yet... or am I mistaken.

Ok now that's even worse than the original story itself (and the story seems pretty much made to get people to ship the pair).

Something related. CBS has created their own modern retelling of Sherlock Holmes set in America.

From wikipedia:
In January 2012, Sue Vertue of Hartswood Films, the company that produces Sherlock, said, "We understand that CBS are doing their own version of an updated Sherlock Holmes. It's interesting, as they approached us a while back about remaking our show. At the time, they made great assurances about their integrity, so we have to assume that their modernised Sherlock Holmes doesn't resemble ours in any way, as that would be extremely worrying."
The next month, Vertue said, "We have been in touch with CBS and informed them that we will be looking at their finished pilot very closely for any infringement of our rights." CBS made a statement on the issue: "Our project is a contemporary take on Sherlock Holmes that will be based on Holmes, Watson and other characters in the public domain, as well as original characters. We are, of course, respectful of all copyright laws and will not infringe on any stories or works that may still be protected."

Doherty spoke about comparisons between Sherlock and Elementary that July:
"Sherlock has been contemporized dating back to the forties. There were movies with Basil Rathbone set in the Victorian era, and then suddenly there were movies with Basil Rathbone in World War II where they're fighting Nazis. So, the idea has been around a long time. Sherlock has done it extremely well. I think it's a brilliant show. I've only seen the first series, but I hear the second series is just as excellent. But as far as taking from the show, I just don't think that's true and Sherlock again has been... because he exists mostly in the public domain, many hands have handled Sherlock over the years and Watson and the premise and the show. He's been everywhere. He's been to the future. He's been to the past. I've seen him in comics. I've seen him in books. I've seen many, many different takes and interpretations on the character and the franchise. They're all great. I don't think any of them hurt any of the others."

I've actually seen a few episodes of Elementary and even though it takes a bit of getting used to (as Jeremy Brett is the quintessential Sherlock Holmes in my opinion), the show isn't bad at all.

Lucy Liu as Watson is an interesting touch.

^Surprisingly enough, I agree. Once they explained in excessive detail that Watson and Sherlock would not be hooking up, I was ready and willing to get involved with the show. But, it was only after seeing Lucy Liu's very understated performance as Watson (and damn if she isn't hotter at 43 than she ever was at 23) and Jonny Lee Miller's frantic and horrifically flawed Sherlock that I was willing to fully enjoy the series. Switching the locale to New York is a nice touch, Aiden Quinn also adds a nice depth to the series, and while being a somewhat simplistic procedural the show is carried quite far by the characters and the various episodic revelations, while somewhat obvious, are still well acted.

It is a very surprising show . Definitely recommended for the casual viewer.
