Judging from the trailers so far and the screenshots they use for episode 1, the adaptation is going to be really interesting. It looks like the first episode should cover events from chapters 1-3 at least, but I definitely don't expect it to be a straight linear adaptation.

Oh, there's also the English version of the site:

You know ... jazz music has never been my thing. But "coming of age" stories definitely ARE. I also like Japanese series/films that focus on "slightly older modern settings". Am kinda curious about this one, but at the moment Tsuritama looks a little more interesting for me at first glance....

@Flower: you're not the only one; as far as jazz is concerned, I'm only familiar with Louis Armstrong by one song -- "What a Wonderful World" -- but I'm happy with electric guitar instrumentals done by the likes of Joe Satriani, so no problem for me delving into Apollon's musical world. Also, having been wowed by Aya Endo's elegant Sheryl Nome, I like to hear her again on this gig.

Is it possible this show will spark a little interest in jazz? I doubt it, but you never know. Japan has always been crazy about jazz, and has produced many great international talents. I'm surprised it's been such a rare element in anime.

Well I know quite a few friends that got into jazz after watching cowboy bebop.Though the cowboy bebop OST is quite different from what I expect to hear here.

So, while waiting for the anime I skimmed the manga... and it's good stuff. It's seriously good stuff. The Sentarou-Kaoru relationship is beautiful, the various friendships and loves/triangles are handled delicately and are fully believable, and Kaoru is overall a great character.
Now I hate the shortness of the anime more than ever. :/ Also, I really hope that the Watanabe + Kanno duo will live up to the hype (and not crumble under its weight) because if the show wants to be anywhere as good as the manga it will need a delicate and sensitive directorial approach and music that complements the show but doesn't demand more attention than it should. Yes, jazz is important in the story but it's not what the whole thing is about. And did I mention Kaoru is a great character? Kimura Ryouhei, nothing less than a fantastic performance will cut it. And after reading the manga I'm less surprised about the choice of Hosoya Yoshimasa as Sentarou (though I'm very interested to hear how he deals with the role - I haven't listened to any of the PVs so I can hear his voice in context). I'll be waiting for the angsty scenes, though. XD (That man has such a beautiful voice...) |

However I can't understand how one of the streaming sites did not jump on this title with names like Watanabe & Kanno. Anyways I hope it will be a great series but seeing as there is a lot of material, I am a bit disappointed it is only 1 cour.

This show's looking more interesting with every new update! For the longest time I'm really looking forward to something. The second PV looked amazing.
Don't know about Japan. All I know is that I'm getting into some Armstrong, Davis, Blakey and Monk at the moment. Jazz is unexplored territory for me, but I'd say it was about damn time I dived right in. Sometimes things like Sakamichi no Apollon can be the trigger
