But yeah, there ain't much underlying subtext beneath Rin's denial of being friends with Shiemi - we see this kind of typical "misunderstanding" in anime all the time. Given that Rin appears to be especially hot-headed and arguably bratty even by shonen male lead standards, scenes that amount to "Act first, think never later" are something i expect to encounter on a fairly regular basis.

I wouldn't blame him too much though in this situation - while definitely a response born out of embarrassment, his interactions with Shiemi haven't been that numerous. Unless i am missing something, beyond his involvement in episode 4 they haven't really interacted much, besides the occasional short exchanges during classroom. Given his personality, i am not surprised his trying to weasel out of a situation he likely considers embarrassing from 'cool guys' perspective (Friends with a girly girl ? Yuck!), and they don't know each other well enough for him to put his pride aside.

So .. yeah, i think he was just being childish

Just like justinstrife said, sadly not many anime characters actually say that He may have turned down Bon's challenge but that was probably only because of the heavy burden that he is constantly reminded by Yukio that made him remain that situation, or maybe because he was always constantly caught into fights so he is used to it.

Ah, your comments remind me that Rin held back because he wanted to avoid having to draw his sword. So I guess if it weren't for that, he probably would have accepted the challenge, but to have thought that much is a surprise for an anime character like him.

There is also the fact she come off to him as being interested in his brother and not him and given the short time they knew each other they really hadn't technically become friends yet and he didn't want speak for her in claiming they were closer then he belived they were.

Moe is anything that incites a... 'Funny' feeling inside of you... It's mostly positive but too much and it can result in massive blood lost.

I can guess why someone may think like that. I mean, until now in the anime, he's an adorable teenager. And he's fun, lively, a little tsun tsun and has something for cute and cool things. And besides, has a strong will but is a little dense.

I can understand them. For me, he's certainly "cute" and enjoyable.

All he had to do was touch it, he didn't need his sword for that.

Rin did say if things go wrong (which it did) that he would have to draw his sword, so I don't think Rin knew that his rage/powers are alone enough to scare the lesser demon.

Huh? No, I don't mean girls being attracted to Rin or not, I simply mean how Rin seems to lack the experience of interacting with "cute" girls. Plus, it seems that Yukio had more training and other things going on while Rin was kept in the dark.

haha, can't agree more, Rin is the type of main guy I completely dislike. the typical-hot-headed-STUPID-anime-guy. also with a girly name.

This week, on Blue Master Chef.

Spoiler for episode 6:

2000 yen allowance, Rin and Yukio get around to questioning who's been making their breakfast, Mephisto demonstrates his other worldly culinary skills, annoying fangirls, bonding via cooking and Yukio traumatised by boxed lunches! So the original episode did take some ideas from the 4koma skit but only at the start. Yukio ended up as the butt of most of the jokes. His fangirls are annoying as hell though, I hope we'll never ever see them again (even in fillers). Totally cracked up at how Rin was commenting on the berserk Ukoback's cooking etiquette instead of the fact it was trying to cook three girls alive. The extra flashback on how Rin's cooking skills improved over time was rather nice, but what made the whole episode for me was seeing Rin drop kick Yukio XD.

Next week we're back on the manga story with the training camp!

Not a bad filler; it made me laugh, the fangirls were annoying, but they were supposed to be I guess. Development wise, the episode wasn't a total waste since we got to see Yukio acting like a normal boy (and now I can finally believe him and Rin are twin ^^).

Best parts for me were when Rin drop kicked Yukio and when Mephisto was talking about the culture of food then goes and eats his cup ramen.

Ukobach was awesome. That duel must have been intense good thing they forged a bond. Yukio's fangirls were so annoying, but i guess it was Yukio's fault for Ukobach's rage. The girl's bentos must have been horrible to make Yukio scared of food.
