I didn't expect this one. Same with tales of wedding rings that already ended, why are they picking manga now that has its manga series ended. it's usually animated when the manga is ongoing to promote it more.

Feels like an anime out of the 90s but less charm due to lack of traditional animation aesthetics (frame jitter, darker lighting, cels), might watch. ED is bangin too, too bad they didn't put any effort into its visuals.

It does feel like a very dated, predictable series, but the execution is very good. I'd actually say one of its benefits is how incredibly straightforward, earnest, and honest it is with its characters. There's a lot of series out there that try too hard to subvert things, and inevitably fail and make the twist more obvious and ultimately lame. This series isn't trying to trick you into thinking it is clever, it knows the goal is to entertain.
Rokudo knows he's a pathetic weakling, and he's upset about it and wants things to change. But his superpower is oddly still useless in the traditional shonen power-fantasy sense. Which sets things up for Himawari Ranna's role in the series. The series also has legitimately good character development for the whole cast. The ramp-up is slow, but worth it. |

Hmm... I'm thinking this isn't for me. It doesnt do anything wrong really. Loser MCs are a dime a dozen, but they can grow on me. I doubt Rokudo will, since I hate over-exaggerated cowardice. Loser sidekicks are consistently annoying, and that shows itself thoroughly here. Ranna is nice, but I'm not sure how much I can tolerate the hypnotized romance and over-reliance on Ranna's fighting ability before I can get past it(Rokudo fighting for himself at the end is a glimmer of hope, but doubtful it'll last). I think I'll give it one more episode to see if something connects with me before I drop it.

Oh snap, Rokudo landed the first punch! Technically! Not that it saved him from Iinuma going all Ora Ora on him, but he stood his ground against those punches far more than anyone would have expected before he finally brought in Ranna !
I guess it figures a bully would've been bullied in their past...Iinuma used to be terrified of lightning, and fittingly Ranna hits him with the force of thunder ! Well, Rokudo may have felt he lost because he had to have Ranna come in and save him, but to Iinuma Rokudo just proved to himself how much of a man he is. So chin up Rokudo, I think things are looking up for you . Mizue seems like the only normal, nice, girl in this whole series...so of course that makes her immune to the spell and thus not immediately in love with Rokudo, much as he wishes it were otherwise. Of course all the delinquent girls flocking to him is also a turn off for her . What better way to cement Rokudo and Iinuma's friendship than sharing some ramen together? Also it turns out Rokudo got beat up by middle schoolers, because this show runs a little on Tokyo Revengers logic . I like how this Sasaki guy comes waltzing in with a honey on his arm and she immediately rushes towards Rokudo when the spell kicks in. But you can't beat Ranna's blushing confession to Rokudo ! So the top dog at the school is Osonada...a little girl!? Is she even old enough to be going to high school? I mean, she literally sits on a guy in a cloak to capture her tough guy vibes, though she punches as hard as Ranna does. It's like Naomi Ozora is playing a darker version of Samidare . Of course, because Osonada is so young, the spell doesn't automatically work because she's not into romance...but then she can't punch Rokudo and suddenly wants to get to know him better and starts showing signs that she's falling in love with him. And it makes Rokudo question the ethics of making these girls forcibly fall for him when it's not real. I guess the only solution is to turn them into good girls so they won't be forced into loving him and won't be a problem for Rokudo . Man, Rokudo's First Love got turn to shreds when she became a hardcore gyaru delinquent, huh .
