If you're just talking about this one episode, then I'd almost agree (but this is basically because he takes a back seat in most of the episode while he focuses on his studies). But over the series on the whole, I think he has a pretty defined personality, that has been increasingly defined as the series went on.

Maybe Kyousuke himself is being straightforward in personality AFAIK.

Indeed. That rejection was woefully cruel to her.

When it comes to rejection, there is a difference between two different person in perspective, one had once engaged a relationship with a certain love interest, and the other one is single or first-time experiencing love. When a person who already had a love interest and got rejected before, reject / rejected by the other one, would tend to be readily/prepared to take the rejection "like a man"; a person who is still single, on the other hand, it would be harsh and painful as one tend to take rejection too personal. The near-end of this episode clearly demonstrates this.

Some mentioned this a few times, but the rejection + ED had a much greater impact... And the farewell kiss was included too.

Well, yeah. Gotta admit the kiss was cute. The way Ayase slowly landed after kissing him... perfect illustration of why Kyousuke calls her his lovely angel. XD

And btw, kyousuke has been kissed in both cheeks now, lucky bastard. Wonder who will he get his first kiss on the lips. I still hope it's Ruri... Kuroneko all the way here, now matter what! :3

Ayase really looked cute with that kiss. How she played it out to surprise Kyousuke.

Because the rejection was too sad for me to consider it cute

I don't like Ayase much but this episode managed to make me feel pity for her.

Receiving a kiss from a rejected girl in tears is never cute..... "a touching kiss/moving kiss" is more appropriate to describe that kiss

A TRUE REAL MAN is someone who is decisive and can reject other girls for the one he loves. I'm tired of seeing indecisive protags in some other anime so Kyousuke is one of the protagonist that I can respect. Some time you have to be cruel in this situation in order not to make things more complicated.

Tell that to those authors whose purpose was to do it for the lulz. Who knows if a male MC was forced to do so depends on the series' setting, if not being too dense nor indecisive.

Not your fault, man. It's just that a guy who is being too decisive or straightforward of his personal feeling tend to be a jerk to others' POVs without even reconsidering who's the best girl for him, or simply just 'screw the logic, follow your heart'. But hey, this is life. Sh!ts may happen anytime.

By the way, as I was reading the article on Japanese etiquette in Wikipedia, I saw this:

Was it a practical gift or was it symbolic to what happened after that? D:

My bet on practical gift, since it's truly useful for someone living alone, as well as can be used to ....er...'terminate' any ill intention
