That's what I thougth to, who cares bout Suzaku! He ain't even fit to be Lelouchs rival till Lelouch called him his archrival in R2 ep 8 at the end. My hearth was aching from hearing such a stupid phrase. Especially cause I also thougth of Schneizel or the emperor as his archrival! Heck Suzaku cause he's only brawn ain't fit to be even his rival imo.

No, the Emperor is not a rival. He is the goal to destroy. Schneizel isn't a rival either for that matter. He is just an obstacle Lelouch needs to overcome. Suzaku is his true rival. Suzaku has been demolishing Lelouch's plans from the beginning. How can you NOT see them as rivals when they are trying to better each other in combat ALL the time?

Hold on when has Lulu ever tried to better Suzaku in combat in R2? He knows he can't compete with him that way so he has to outscheme him like in EP 8. Its like how Suzaku can't even compete with Kaguya how can he compete with Lulu diplomacy or strategy wise so he can only fight head on. 1 is brain the other is brawn. You can't say they are rivals because neither can compete directly against each other head to head in there area of specialisation.

Schenziel to me ever since he was mentioned has always seemed to be his true rival since they can go head to head since they are both strategists. Its kinda like how Kallen is Suzaku's rival since they always go head to head since they are both fighters.

Well, they haven't fought yet in R2. Actually, Lelouch really hasn't done much of any fighting in R2 at all.

Eh. I get that reasoning too. But they don't have to fight the same to be rivals. Just for the sheer fact that Suzaku just being there always seems to throw a wrench into Lelouch's plans I have to say they are rivals.

Oh come on. Suzaku is brawns, Lelouch brains, so they can't be proper "rivals" and he's just a pain in the ass? Way to miss the point. They each have one dominant ability, and the irony is precisely that were they to work together, they could achieve anything. And that's the tragedy of their friendship: their goals are not that different, but they have "chosen" different paths that clash against one another. They are not done with each other yet, and I'm personally looking forward to any future interaction.

That's true actually Lelouch and Suzaku are horrible rivals. One is so superior at their respective talent than the other, that theres no contest. In combat Suzaku effortlessly crushes Lelouch. In strategy Lelouch makes Suzaku look like a fool.

Sadly Geass isn't about epic rivalry and action anyway (a damn shame since the KMF are awesome mecha and IMO wasted horribly by being in a show that doesn't focus on them)

It is sort of interesting to see a "brain" verus "Brawn" scenario, Suzaku isn't stupid, it's just Lelouch makes most people look like a fool. So he has to stick to his strength and find a situation to force Lelouch to fight on his terms rather then his own.

And I agree it is just a damn shame that KMF arn't as big of a focus, I'm still wishing they would make a Master Grade equivalent of the Gurren and Gawain

Also, it's just that the anime didn't give Suzaku enough focus and development.

I think Suzaku is Lulu's rival because he is technically everything that Lulu isn't. And he messes up Lulu's plan the most.

In terms of brains Lelouch pretty much dominates everyone in this series so to call them stupid just because Lelouch is a tactical genius is an overstatement and is that was the case every Britanniain would be a full blown idiot not to mention he has been outsmarted before (Cornelia? Mao, Xingke).

Well this isn't surprising since the KMF are there to keep the interest of the casual audience so that's wh there's such a huge backstory about it' development and so forth but beyond that Lelouch didn't become so popular because he had a badass KMF like Kira Yamato granted he did get and lose Gawain, in the end character development and C.C eating pizza sadly tops KMF battles.

that's why suzaku is NOT LL's rival. A rival is someone who can compete in the same area of expertise. Otherwise you're pretty much saying that Einstein and Michael Jordan are rivals...(yes i know it's an extreme example)

As we can see, a rival can also be someone who is competing towards the same goal. Therefore, Suzuku could be a rival to Lelouch in the sense that both are trying to create a better world.
