Anime you hate but everyone seems to like?

The reason I really liked Arlong Arc is Nami in the spotlight than any other characters beside Luffy. Yes she did got more important roles in later arcs but Arlong Arc is the only time where we got to see her human side.

More importantly people start watching One Piece when Naruto hits its dark age(filler arcs before Shippuden) and this comment is from someone who read(not watch) One Piece long before if hits the English-speaking anime communities.

I used to dislike One Piece but a co-worker a few years back told me that the original anime (not the 4Kids version) is considerably better because it maintains a more adult theme. Even still, I was never behind the idea of One Piece. 4Kids aside, I think the whole superpowered pirates concept just fell a bit flat, and especially since the series centered around the superpowered pirates fighting each other. Typically when I see pirates I want to see dirty fencing and wood shrapnel. So I never really got into it. But I suppose it was a bit interesting, and at the least there was some good stuff from what I saw. I did like the Zorro character.

I'm adding two to this list: Excel Saga and Puni Puni Poemi, I almost never laughed at either of them, nothing about them was interesting, and the latter was nothing more than pure gross-out jokes in the form of "fan service". *shrivels* Now wonder PPP got banned in New Zealand. Also an unhonorable mention goes to Cadcaptor Sakura, it's just painfully boring and should have been cut down to 39 episodes instead of 70; how this girly junk got such a big audience is beyond me.

Sorry, GenjiChan but I did not like her. XD She reminded me too much of Akane (Ranma 1/2) and Yuuka (Elfen Lied), both whom I also hate.

Hentai Ouji, I have to say disliked is a better term for it. Since I felt the story was a bit boring for my tastes, but I think Tsukushi, Emi, and Azusa are pretty good characters though.

One Piece one of the best selling manga in Shounen Jump's history. Shounen Jump is the most successful comic publishers for decades. The sale of second place to fourth place combined still cannot match Jump. If you disregarding the personal tastes, the show has some valuable thing to stay on top. It may not be people's favorite and highly praised work, it is still the most popular work.




Since the market has long history, the number of outrageous haters are a lot.

In past years, some manga/light novel creators received the threatening notice.

For me it is Mirai Nikki. I have no clue why does this one is loved except it's a yandere porn. How it got more than 8.0 scores in MyAnimeList is beyond me.

I hate to say this but I really hate to see OP fans used its popularity and sales to defend it. Let's use other shows for examples. Michael Bay movies was sold by millions, are they good? School Days is popular, is it good? Popularity and sales doesn't always equal quality.

Third and biggest reason I don't like OP is sexualization of its female characters.

If OP is an ecchi or hentai show, I'm not going to complain but OP is a shounen show for teenage boys. I know "shounen" isn't always meant it should be seen by teenage boys but OP is an action/adventure show and definitely not ecchi like Queen's Blade is. Just take a look on Nami for example. Today she just wearing a bikini top(bra) and jeans. Her breasts also getting bigger and bigger and some other readers actually noticed that too but Oda himself telling that just a "healthy" progression. I haven't read OP for many years but from what I remember she wear striped, round neck t-shirt and skirt. While still can be considered as sexy to most people but I think that outfit is appropriate for a con-artist like her. of course her breasts was lot smaller in that time. I know there was a time skip but that shouldn't be used as an excuse(of Nami's breast size). Today she just a glorified stripper with portable pole(no pun intended). Poor Nami isn't the only victim. Take a close look on Nico Robin. She looked different by the time she appeared for the first time and today, just another sex symbol like Nami, with her blouse exposes her cleavage and not wearing a bra. I know it supossed to be an eye candy for male readers and viewers but such sexualization don't belong in a shounen action and adventure show like One Piece.

Okay enough with One Piece and what about other shows which I also disliked as well. Ouran Highschool Host Club is another show that fall into this category. While I do acknowledge its production qualities but it got annoyingly sexist. In fact I skipped some of its episodes because of that issue. I have spent many years telling other people about it but since it was made by and for women, they don't care. If it was made by and for men like Queen's Blade and I'm sure it didn't got away with it.

School Days is also a show which annoyed me too and I know mentioning it in this thread only increases its notoriety(this kid hates this show and it should be good) but it just annoying to see how popular it got just because it is everyone's favorite guilty pleasure show.

As much as I adore One Piece, (the manga anyway. The anime has been pretty consistently mediocre with but the occasional flicker of greatness for a very long time now) you are entirely right in regards to this. Granted it is slightly better in the manga where you don't have Oda putting more effort into drawing a random shot of Nami falling over than the entire rest of the chapter it's in, or just constantly filling in time with fanservice, (not to mention that absolutely embarrassing "Boob-valley"-joke they did a few months back -_-) but the female character-designs in One Piece are just preposterous, and Nami really does seem to have regressed from an interesting character to just being "The one with the boobs". Robin still gets off a bit better though, being that she at least has an awesome power she gets to use every now and again, plus she did uncover some pretty vital information back in the Fishman Island arc... a scene which the anime also kind of ruined with flat-out embarrassing attempts at making her look sexy BTW.

As much as I try to like NGE I just can't bring myself to like it. Honestly, I've always felt that a lot of the popularity from NGE comes from the same place that popularity for Higurashi comes from. It's mature and senselessly vague.

I really have little memory of NGE ( all that Angels being evil and ugly and weird looking at the same time {why not it like Daimos' has?}).... But I can't hate since.. like I said I had little memory of it.... but I'm planning to watch it... even knowing how huge the hate is for the anime
