I was kind of wondering about the discussion of (by forum rule) contraband material. It'd be different if the discussion were over the latest japanese releases (patiently waiting for the next Del Rey release).

ummm guys i'm sure this would of been mentioned before in this thread but 55 pages is alot to read so i'm just going to ask it...
Is the Chao arc the last arc? Will the manga continue from volume 17 or is volume 17 the last volume for the original negima manga.... I was wondering cause since there is the new negima neo manga out does that mean they will stop the old one? |

The neo manga is a serialization of the new Negima!? series (sort of ). It doesn't happen within the same context as the original Negima manga.

so they are continuing both of the mangas? at the same time?! i mean that would mean that audiences now have to choose, which manga they think is the real storyline... Would Negima Neo finish where the new anime finished?

No, it happens at the same time. Actually the Neo manga starts before the anime - the first chapter (chapter zero) shows Negi and Anya in Wales. Generally speaking I wouldn't imagine the Neo manga will continue for very long - mangas based off of animes usually don't.
I'm not sure how you consider choosing which is the real storyline. The real Negima storyline is in Negima, the real Negima Neo storyline is in Negima Neo. EDIT: Ahh, now I see what you're asking - I don't know if it will finish at the same point as the anime. I've only ever read the zero chapter and skimmed chapter one, so I don't know a whole lot about it. I'm not even sure if it's following the same story thread or not since the last time I read it was before the whole Black Rose Baron thing started in the anime.

Well, Negima Neo can theoratically last for quite a while, assuming if this re-imagining of Negima heads off to strange places. I think looking at the two as different forks of The Adventures of Negi Springfield and his cohorts might be a better way to handle it.

I didn't really mean it as a statement of the manga itself (I actually really enjoyed the zero chapter - I stopped reading because it's in a different magazine, and a monthly one at that, so it's hard for me to keep up with the story), the manga itself has a lot of story potential. It's just that in my experience mangas based off of animes usually only last for a couple of volumes.

well umm no one really answered my other question except for maybe panzerfan's vague answer... does the original Negima manga continue after volume 17? Or is volume 17 the last volume for the negima manga series.
