Last week's episode was a bit underwhelming, let's hope that this one kicks ass

Ugh, once again they more or less skipped Shirou's point of view in favor of Saber and Kotomine flashbacks. Yes, he doesn't have much dialogue in this scene, but much of the scene is driven by his thoughts. To just omit that really weakens the whole point of this climax.

Archer confirmed for killing Roman Royal Guards, Middle East Jihadist, African Drug Lords, and..not sure what the last one is

Well this did put some perspective into things. So Shirou's final wish was to stop a nuclear disaster...

And while countless universes exist, the number of guardians is so limited (or is Archer unique?) that they can never keep up with the villains. A pointless existence indeed.

When I think about it, you're right that the number of guardians must be limited.

Archer is peak culmination of all the timeline Shirous (hence his ideal). But if it's an infinite universe, there'd be a woefully infinitesimal number of guardians to deal with all the crap if a guardian condenses the infinite into one.

Damn, talk about worst afterlife ever.

It would look terribly out of place in an Anime. Even Nasu agrees that Shirou's monologues are undesirable.

Unlike the VN, the Anime needs to send a message visually... and I don't think that any on Anime Only watchers will have trouble guessing most of his thoughts.

Saber's flashback is necessary, especially since Fate storyline was not given to the watcher. The parallel between Saber and Archer is required, especially to motivate Saber to give up on her own wish... not to mention that it makes Saber staying behind rather than saving her Master look better.
And even if it were not necessary, it is neat to have parallels.

Truth be told, I felt like that Archer himself was the best advice/evidence to Saber when it concerns her own wish in the VN.

Rin's rant was AWESOME! "A eunuch like you should be tangled in a bed of thorns!"

That's because Urobuchi was actually pretty unoriginal when he wrote Fate/zero. A LOT of details in the novel were practically copied from the VN, and some of his initial plans would've made it a lot more obvious.
