Any anime above "sub-par"

Well, i finally got around to finishing FMA, and holy shnazzles was it good. I finally know why so many people love that show xD Anyway, after watching something so breathtaking, i'm afraid to enter the null void that is sub-par anime. Anything that was influential, or really left an impression on you afterwards is good. Any titles like that?

Air (TV) was absolutely amazing. The animation is beautiful, and the music is incredibly moving, especially in the ways it always seems to fade in at just the right time. The plot also unfolds in such a way that you keep thinking it's over, but there's still more.

Now I don't understand that... I've never disliked an anime for its animation. And anyways, Haibane has very good animation.

I'll second Trigun and Kenshin.

If the OP liked AIR .... I'd highly recommend Kanon 2006 (in progress with ep 15 just out). Produced by Kyoto Animation. Heavy drama but nice bits of "life is a comedy" mixed in.

You might also check out "The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi" (SHnY). A fairly splendid sci-fi comedy romance which turns a lot of stereotypes upside down in the characterizations. Some great animation, dialog, and effects. Its been licensed just recently so animesuki isn't listing it in their torrents.

I would recommend Shakugon no Shana, Fate/Stay night and Utawarerumono. Best searies I have watched so far.

And @ Anime-source.com Shakugan no Shana is at top 18. and Utawarerumono 8.

Seen Fate, Lied, and Suzumiya. I hear Shakugan is similar to fate, is it worth checking out?

In my books Shana is better than F/Sn, so yea - do check it out.

You might also try The Third - the first few eps seem pretty average, but it just keeps getting better as it goes on.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - horror/mystery

Scrapped Princess - the plot turns out like nothing you would expect from the first eps

Erementar Gerad if you are up for some romance/adventure/fantasy

...and i second Utawarerumono

Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny, Eureka Seven. Like FMA, those anime involved the world. They both have an epic feeling.
