What is the Oldest Anime You Consider a "Favorite"?
I watch classic anime most of the time, so, for me, this isn't a tough decision. The oldest anime I consider a favorite is Astro Boy (1963), the first anime show to be released in America. I love '60s anime.

Series, Touch, 1985.
Film, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, 1984. Will be scanning future responses with my mind open for things to try out....

Have you ever seen Heidi, Panda Go Panda, or Future Boy Conan?

Yes, I like Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli very much. I hope this isn't the opening for a debate, since I recall you think he's "overrated".
As to your question, I believe I've seen most major works by both Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki - other than Heidi. However, since you asked for favourites, my first true "favourite" is Nausicaa.

I was considering Horus when I wrote my post. I certainly think it is a very significant and well-told film (I almost wrote masterpiece, but I need to rewatch it to make sure this isn't just nostalgia talking), but just not a personal favourite of mine for various reasons.

he he he .. You should've titled it "Your Favorite Classic" .. I went back to my favorites list and found that the oldest entries in it date back to ~2002~2003 (Basilisk, FMA, Gunslinger Girl) .. *looks around makes sure nobody noticed his entrance, tiptoes right back out*

I'm not that fond of his drawing styles.
Anyway, I think my favorite anime series from way back is Cyborg 009. (It was shown in a later time on cable TV so I managed to watch it, though it's dubbed.) However, I didn't manage to finish it.

Tezuka's anime is kinda boring. His manga, though, still holds up very well...
As to the OP...The Rose of Versailles for televison maybe (though some of Go Nagai's super mecha anime are super fun)? And for film...The Legend of Sirius or The Castle of Cagliostro (I forget which came out first). Sorry, not a huge fan of pre-80s anime... |

The oldest show I consider a favorite is definitely Lupin the III (1971).
While i do like this show I don't consider it a favorite of mine, but if we would go by just shows we like then Cyborg 009 would be the oldest show for me.

Hmmm., Let's see for Anime Series I think it would be Rurouni Kenshin (1996), and for movie Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind (1984); thought I had an older favorite series but looking at dates I was wrong.

I can't believe that nobody has mentioned Speed Racer.
Yes, I actually liked it back in the days of my high school years... even though I was ridiculed by my "so called friends" for admitting that I watched it. Aside from that, I have to give a plug for the original Bubblegum Crisis (1987-1991). THE anime that blew my mind and totally turned me on to this form of entertainment.
