Ah, that makes a lot more sense
Looks like each episode's opening is a bit different. It grew on me. Episode 2 was great too. To add to the list of references to other anime: Dejiko's clothes in the last screenshot posted by Mentorian, and the "Zura ja nai! Katsura da!" is the infamous catchphrase of Katsura from Gintama. Seeing that had me on the floor laughing because it was so random.. |

Yay for the sub. Another reason to see Komori again. <3
& yeah, the hardcore stalker part was pretty genius. The way Tsunetsuki stalks in just unbeatable, especially with that hardcore cute smile of hers.

So in episode 2 when Kitsu-san rolled over from the bed in the nurse's office, you can see the teach laying on top of the other bed. And then you can see another set of feet directly below him. What in the world is that about?
Since anime of this genre typically make use of every little detail as reference to something comically or mockingly, I thought I'd point it out. Does it mean something or just a totally botched animation frame? |

Ep 2
That was genius! This has potential to be one of the best black comedies in anime for ages. Very refreshing, since anime desperately lacks good black comedy (I was left rather disappointed by Welcome to the NHK). If I had a complaint, it's that sometimes this show trivializes its topics while it pokes fun at them, which is something that immediately separates it from NHK, which poked fun at its issues, but also made some attempts to seriously deal with them. I suppose NHK is a little more elegant than this is on the dramatic side of things, but, for all I know, Zetsubou Sensei probably isn't even attempting to treat its topics in any other context other than a humourous one. Nonetheless, I seriously lol'd at this episode. Some of the gags are just brilliant, and the comedic timing and execution clearly benefits from the fact that a genius like Shinbo is running things behind the camera. Early days, but this really looks like a winner. I'm just glad we're at least seeing some intelligent black comedies in anime... just a couple of years ago, I couldn't count the number of black comedy anime I'd seen on my thumbs.

Episode 2 - brilliant! Even better than the first.
Spoiler for ep.2 opening credits:
What was with that bit in the middle just before the cake cutting? That was just plain surreal! You can keep your loli-in-a-box, I'll take a Komori in the closet, thank you very much. AFK are doing a great job, and I like the character sheets at the end. This is definitely shaping up to be a favourite show, but I suspect it'll never, ever, get licensed or if it does there'll be many cuts. Last edited by Dop; 2007-07-19 at 06:46. |

This is number 3 on my favorite new anime list! 1st is Higurashi Kai and 2nd is Hayate!
Oh wow! Episode 2 was just the greatest! ^^ Thanks for the character sheets AFK! Kiri-chan is soo cuute for being a Hikikomori and when I heard Hikikomori I instantly thought NHK. XDD Whoo another word to add to my list of thinking of NHK. XD The ending was just insane, I couldn't stop laughing. XD A chain of stalkers wow! That is just awesome and hilarious. XD Poor Sensei. Aww I hope it does get licensed -shot- then I can loan the DVDs to my friends and we can watch it together and laugh together and whoo. -falls over- I wanna get both the opening and ending themes!
