The thing I see is this. Shu is a wimp, a coward, and annoying at times. However, he does not have bad intentions, he never kills those around him, and he tries to help everyone even when he was back stabbed multiple times and used. Does he deserved to be back stabbed more? Does he deserved to be used by the students in this episode and then tossed aside? Does he even deserved to have his arm cut off? Does he really deserves all of that just because he's a wimp and a coward? Not only that, he no longer fits under the wimp and coward category because all these past episodes, he is already starting to change.
It's alright to hate him but to say he deserves to be back stabbed, getting his arm cut off, and others is too much. Not a lot of people talk about Nanba on the other hand... * Shu helps everyone free with a very tyranical attitude * The students betrays Shu after he helps them The students: Well we're not doing anything wrong. You were just a bad guy that's why we betray you. * Gai cuts off Shu's arm "Well he deserved it."

I feel like watching Code Geass. I prefer Lelouch more because he's ruthless from the beginning, but still wish for the best, since the setting only has crazy people wanting to destroy the world or people who slaughter their *enemies* like bugs wile they called themselves *knights*. |

Just like Kids in games.
For example Skyrim/Fallout 3. You see this bitch of a kid verbally dissing you, and all you think is "Fu#k I want to take out my Sword/Gun and just kill that little bitch". But for RPG's you have player mods, for animes you just need to survive the bad taste.

I myself am in the cut Shu some slack camp. I find it funny how people call him a wimp and sissy and daisy yet does anyone here think they could have survived the shit he went through without have a complete mental break down. Its always easier to sit back in judgement of someone rather to take action yourself. Until you have been responsible for other peoples "lives" you can not say for a fact how you would react, one can not for the life of them know the mental strain and stress one would be under in the same situations that Shu has found himself in no not found himself was forced into. Shu's character has evolved since the beginning and maybe the pace of his change is not to some viewers taste but Rome was not built in a day. A person becomes stronger everytime they get knock down and stand back up and Shu has been knocked down plenty of times. The horrible events that befell him this time would be KO for most people but Shu has shown that not only can he stand back up but he has shown himself able to adapt even when he does not want to. Shu has actually earned a little respect from me his actions from now on to the conclusion will determine how i truly view him. Some other characters have not show any growth. Is Arisa catching some serious flack? hell yea she is because i can think of 10 ways she could have handled the situation instead of the way she did. Arisa is a person who can be strong without others and she gets her strength by feeling like shes needed she cant stand on her own. The look she gave Gai at the end says it all that was not a look of a girl just being rescued it was the look of someone who had found a god like figure in her eyes that needed her. Its funny she was afraid about dying if her void breaks now Gai has the same power and i guarantee you this neo Gai wont be as nice as Shu was. GC character development could have gone better but its not down right horrible i have seen worse

Wasn't Shu being setup as the bad guy by the people outside? Gai and his new masters intentional provoked the actions that was going on inside the sealed off area. What was going on inside the school, with the students and ex-funeral parlor members, is basically a standard reaction you get from people, who were fed with partial information.
I mean Arisa, represents someone who thinks that he/she is smart and understand everything, without actually knowing the whole story. She saw the issue with the Voids, and just because Shu is the only one she knew who can drawn them out, she brands him as evil due/king. She herself was completely useless, when she had power. Having a (hate) figure to focus her action, just made her decision easier. To be honest, Shu and Yahiro made it really to easy for her to plan a throw over. Question is what was her next step, if Gai did not showed up? Shu getting his arm chop off by his "mentor" or idol is probably just a wake up call, if he survives, well he will anyway, anyone in his position will be more determine to fight back. Until know Shu didn't really have a real personally reason to fight at all. I reckon Yahiro and Glasses are the one who will save Shu and Inori out of the current situation, I mean they are the only ones left. |

In addition, as others have mentioned, his fighting ability increases when he pulls Inori's void. Quote:

A question that has been lingering in my mind is that, "what happened to all the adults?" It seems like the students are the only ones left in here, and they are the only ones to escape. Everyone outside of the school just does not exist.

If a decoy was necessary, I really wonder why they didn't even bother using Arisa's Void, who "magically" withdrew the shield once the assault started.
Another measure would be even more simple: using tsugumi void and create clones to make true and safe distraction. Objectively speaking, the plan the council has set doesn't make much sense considering what they had at their disposal.

However we don't diss him saying he deserve it. As far as it goes I'm Neutral to Shu/Inori and hateful to anyone else in this story (besides the people that don't have any role whatsoever besides being in the background sometimes).

These 12 pages sure took some time to read through. I have to admit that I enjoyed watching this episode more than the preceding few because this is precisely what I've been hoping Guilty Crown would be like.
It helps that I like how everything is set up for the next episode; Shu is missing an arm, he no longer posses the King's power, and is essentially at death's door after losing all that blood. What set all of this in motion was his 'royal subjects' deciding to justly stage a coup d'état against him because of his tyrannical ways. Admittedly, only doing so after he risked his life to bring down the Tokyo Tower was truly callous. He certainly was a cruel ruler, however, even he did not deserve that. I look forward to see how he deals with the students after he somehow regains his power. While killing them in the most excruciatingly painful manner possible may sound like a good idea, I concur with those who think that it'd be even better if he were to save them from some sort of grave situation. The breakdowns that might follow would surely be glorious. I think that Shu deserves the hate he has been getting; he's really indecisive, wimpy, and pathetic. I was ecstatic to see Argo punch him in the previous episode. Having said that, I actually quite like Shu. 'Tyrant Shu' is whom I abhor, but now that he doesn't have the means or any reason to be a tyrant, I personally won't have any reason to harbour any hate towards him. As he's been put through a lot throughout the show, I'd love to see him and Inori get their happy ending. People may be jumping to conclusions by saying that Tsugumi and Ayase had a hand in the usurping of Shu; it's still too early to say for sure. Personally, I'd like to see Yahiro, Ayase, and Tsugumi return to Shu's side. As for the rest, screw them. Well.. except for scythe girl. I'd love to see Arisa and Souta get skinned alive by Mana; but alas, I'm afraid somebody might beat her to it. |

There is still another aspect of Shu's plan that I felt did warrant the need for the students rushing in as fodder and that would be the fact he needed specific students to be positioned near the tower for him to use their voids. I'm kinda assuming that that's part of the reason he didn't just solo his way through.
Of course, how it was executed is still questionable. |
