As a counterbalance to my usual pursuits, I have all of Led Zep on now, beginning with Black Dog. I only have to blame some of my old classmates and mutual friends who inspired me to start picking up more classics.

Now if you want a little springsteen in with some just rock, here's a band to listen to: japandroids.

Seeing them live was an awesome treat though way too many stage divers that night

If Jojo have any positive effect on my musical tastes, it is to push me to discover more prog rock.

i feel like a fool for not checking out King Crimson earlier

Yes. King Crimson is essential prog rock!

My jazz explorations sometimes lead me to more... rocky areas. Don't be fooled by the name!

Jethro Tull, Joan Jett, ZZ Top, AC/DC, Blue Oyster Cult, The Clash, Adam Ant, Pat Benatar, Ozzie Ozbourne, Billy Squier, Billy Idol, Marc Bolan (T. Rex, technically '70s), EmersonLake&Palmer (also technically '70s), Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Dire Straits ... yeah, I remember the '80s. They weren't just Cyndi Lauper, the Cure, and the poppy stuff.

I always get pissed at '70s/'80s retrospective specials because they have this tiny spectrum of centrist bland I sometimes call the "Z100 zone" where only happy pablum gets mentioned.

Wait 20 years and watch how only Beyonce gets mentioned and not the Black Keys, Flogging Molly, Wolfmother, or Florence&theMachine, etc.

Some of the stuff I see listed in this thread would have been considered "pop" rather than "rock" -- (e.g. Carpenters, Billy Joel, McCartney) unless you were standing over in the country section I guess Not going to pick at the genre bleed over or we'd be here all week.

There's never enough Joan Jett (I Hate Myself For Loving You):

Here's an odd collection of one-hit and two-hit wonders from the '80s:

Robert Palmer - Simply Irresistible (I always thought they completely missed the potential in the music video for some kind of Xena or Red Sonja motif instead of a repeat of Addicted to Love undead females)
