Manga Censorship!
Taken from a Hunter x Hunter forum:
roughly translated: Mangas are in danger in Japan! The mayor of Tokyo passed a law targetting the violence in the pages of prepublication magazines, such as Shonen Jump, those magazines are threatened of suspension if they don't remove from their magazine the pages found too violent. Titles such as One Piece and Naruto would be some of the mangas which would be effected by this censorship. This has already affected the latest HxH chapter, where a big black box cover the violent parts. They better not make Naruto more Pokemon'ish where noone dies at all. |

I would think that the only type of anime / manga that should suffer from that law are the Berserk type material.
Naruto is not violent in the least. The fights have no bite to them. They are all like sparring matches. There have been a few scenes of violence but we never get to see them anyway. When Sasuke broke that sound Ninja's arms, they didnt show it. When Itachi killed sasukes parents, They had it very toned down. He just swung his sword. |

I see my vision that Japan has less censorship that the United States is fading. Seriously, I wonder what sparked this, from the content that Hunter x Hunter and Naruto have had in the past, I would think that they would have been working on passing this law for a while at least. It will be interesting to see what will be too violent from now on. Reading Hunter chapter 218 it would seem severed limps and the blood loss that comes with it is a no-no.

There have always been periodic crackdowns on violence or sex in manga in Japan. Its nothing that will seriously threaten the manga industry or titles like Naruto and One Piece. Nothing to worry about. Naruto is not that violent anyway, and the current publicity will die down. It always does.
If something is edited, there is always the chance that it will be unedited when its collected in bookform. |

Of cpurse no one dies in Pokemon. It's a kids anime for God sakes, and plus there is no Pokemon manga anymore. Also, why should they censor violence in Japan? This is the same place where you could get porno from vending machines. So what if manga's violent? Just don't let younger children read it, and if they do it's their fault, not yours, if this passes then most of all manga would be a big black box on the page. What is this, Barney now? Hell, why not make everything for your little 3 year old children? We teens will be over here in the corner getting the hell bored out of us because of censorship. This a a bunch of crap. Just leave the anime/manga industry to those who actually serve a part in it, not some mayor/president/prime minister/any other politiacl leader/whiny bitchy parents who let their children watch it and it's their fault that they're watching it in the first place for being too busy protesting it instead of keeping an eye on what their kids watch. This is why they need to have age ratings for games/books/shows. I hope most of you realize there is no enforced censorship in Japan unlike in the US. |

Also that public hair being illegal once is just plain freaky. :Back on topic: Now that I am aware of the strict censorships in Japan that explains why they would censor manga, but that would take out of the joy of even purchasing it. If this passes of all manga, this could ruin the manga business once and for all! Some of the biggest buyers are from perverts (Adult) and those who like action (almost everyone). This idea is just showing how iggnorant some political leaders can be. Instead of focusing on real problems with the economy, they try to censor manga and anime (but if it's adult manga and anime, it's understandable.) That's politics for you these days. |

Yeah, though that slightly lossened as of recently (though it may have been tightened up again) It was illegal to show pubic hair in anime/manga/porn. If an animator wanted or needed to show a private area they had to make them "shaved" and if it was something live action it needed to be blurred out also. No wonder japanese men are so grumpy looking! (j/k)
n topic: I wouldn't worry about it naruto isn't even being released atm so it might pass before we see the next chapter. ....Do you think the "Data collecting" could be a cover up or convenently timed so as to try and skip this "crackdown" on violence? I like that he is going to take a break for a little but when you think about it, it is at a very acward place for a long break. |

I dunno why people have this myth that Japan has less censorship than the US. In the US you can get anything pretty much uncensored, it just has to clearly labelled in its own corner and not for kids. In Japan the rules are absolute, if x,y,z is not allowed then it is not allowed anywhere, even if you are an adult.

This I believe is as a result of a recent murder in japan that has people pointing the finger at these violent manga/anime's out in japan.
A 12 year old girl killed an 11 year old classmate by chopping off her head with one of those cleaver type paper cutters. She was an avid anime fan (as most kids her age in japan are) and she happened to have used her sisters ID to rent a particularly voilent anime that she had seen several times in the past, the day of the murder. And right after the murder she went to a message board on a fansite of the anime. Murders are extremly uncommon in japan and this type of murder is even as rare amoung the few as murder itself. |

i thought i remember reading that full on HC hentai and even other adult movies and such dont have to be censored anymore. but the industry itself is keeping in line with the old law to prevent a public outrage.
some of the newer a/v idols have no censorship. as for naruto, its kinda tame, yes the manga has blood, but its no ninja scroll. |

bah she broke the rules of battle royale though,
take a bag dont look what weapon is in it, give the other person a bag, dont know what weapon, set them out on a island. Frying pan vs rocket launcher oops. Just as always the media/politics keep on ramming bs up everyones behind. Here in sweden they even had a documentary about how computer games made people murderers, there will always be psychos. Doesnt matter what they watch/read/listen to. That psycho kid would probably turn a murderer from listening to music if not from watching battle royale, from playing a computer game or watching dubbed pokémon(it can be dangerous) |

Oh, I hate those politicans. In germany they bulit up a new censorship after some guy ran amuck in his school and shoot several students and teachers. They said he was a Counter-Strike fan. You should have read the newspapers. Most of the articels were talking about Counterstrike as a schoolgirl shoot 'em up and whatever. Now it's impossible in germany to get original versions of games. Programmers of Actiongames have to program an extra german-soft-version if they don't want it rated 18+. It's completely stupid. They should shut up and go on showing action and violence in animes.
I don't think Naruto will be affected 'cause Hunter X Hunter is a bit more violent than Naruto I think.. especially the manga. |

She killed the other student with a retractable razor blade (aka. hobby knife, box cutter), she tied her to a chair and slit her throat. Immediately after the murder she did not post to an anime message board, she went straight back to class still covered in blood with the weapon in her hand. She was promptly taken to the office and the police where called. I don't know many 11 year olds who would drag around a large paper cutter. http://www.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/...20040603a1.htm |
