Code Geass (Generic discussion thread)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_sDHm_6KQE

The trailer for the Code Geass series starting, its been long overdue for CLAMP to do a new mecha series.

Uhhh, it's not really a CLAMP series; they're mostly doing the character designs. This is mostly a new Sunrise mecha series created from the same production staff who did Scryed and PlanetES.

Well, it doesn't look bad.. the music looks like it's worth waiting for. Although the expression of the main character reminds me too much of GS/GSD... well it better not go down the way of GSD or I'll have to seriously rethink my opinion of the director.

Thank you You Tube. This thing was DRM'd on the official website.

Doesn't the music clip remind you of Eureka 7? Is the music group or series composer the same?

Just so you know, the first piece of music used in the trailer appeared a few times in the Fate/Stay Night anime, so i wouldn't be shocked if its the same with the song.

Well the the OP for Code Geass is by Flow, who did the first Eureka Seven OP, so either that WAS the Geass OP or it was just another Flow song. As far as the music goes, it seems Taniguchi's regular go to guy, Kotaro Nakagawa, will be scoring it, so no worries there.

I don't think anything could make me re-think my opinion about Taniguchi after Planetes, and Ryvius to an extent. And in any case, going down a GSD route? You're being way too pessimistic here

I'd rather be pessimistic and receive a pleasant surprise than get disappointed. Come on, I practically worship the man after the blessing that was Planetes, but even then this type of show reeks extremely strongly of "Major Producer Influence". The effect a producer can have on a show is worth consideration... I hope he didn't get stuck in an overly commercialised project that ends up being contrived, and that he gets to exert enough control over the show itself so that it remains quality...

But alright, I suppose it can't go to the level of GSD, that's just way too low. I don't see him or Ookouchi delaying scripts and using loads of stock animation... however, it might just be like GS (which most people would like, I guess, but I would like a lot more realism to make it a beliveable story, which would make it 10000x better)

Wow trailer looks very nice. Hope the animation will be consistent. Mecha's are a little to colorfull for my taste but they look alright. Definitely gonna check this out.

Valid concern, but I don't believe it will be an issue, and I do think the entire concept itself was developed by Taniguchi and Ookouchi iirc. What I DO think will be an issue, is the CLAMP factor. I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned that they had *some* input into the development of the show aside from character designs, so we'll see...

Although I stil think my biggest surprise about the whole thing is that Taniguchi is doing another show for Sunrise. Although I never read anything that indicated it, I kinda thought that he left Sunrise for good once he began work on GxS at AIC...but he's back...

Bleh, CLAMP. I don't like them very much... I hope they're just kept strictly to the visual designs of the characters and not the concept of their personalities as well >_<

Perhaps Taniguchi doesn't have a contract with Sunrise that strictly forbids him to work at other studios. He does occasionally do storyboards for non-Sunrise shows anyway (I remember he did one for Honey and Clover the first season).

It's a SUNRISE series, not CLAMP's.

CLAMP's only involved in character designs and probably some minor input here and there on the characters. I doubt they'll have as much of a creative input in the series compared to say..the producers and the sponsors.

Little needs to be said of Taniguchi considering some of his decent to good directed series. The duo of the scriptwriters of Yoshino and Okuochi interest me though.

Yeah, here's the link on the main page: http://www.geass.jp/media_01.html

When people heard of Ayakashi Ayashi and Code Geass both being upcoming MBS/TBS series, just about everyone would have thought Geass would get the 6pm timeslot. This really defies expectations.
