It depends, usually a fight between NP is a fight against concepts, but since both are using Excalibur it all boils down to the one who has more prana to pour on it. and seems that Saber wasnt unable to use at its fullest or Illya would have been vaporized instead

On this fight was like :
Excalibur max power= 100; Prana used on that fight=80
Traced Excalibur max power= 90; Prana used on that fight= 90

By the way, Illya "might" have unlimited prana like on Fate, but certainly her output is limited. We can put it on par with Rin's (She will grown to be amongst the 100 most powerful magus ever in the Association) which is around 1000 prana units (Excalibur power level output). When a mage reaches her max output, no matter how much prana she has, she cant use more than that, so the Excaliblast feat is probably her limit

There are ways to artificially increase natural output, but come with unhealthy consecuences and sequels. Archer is an example of a lucky one with "just"his changed hair, eyes and skin tone as permanent effects, Lord El Melloi is an example of what can happen if you are not so lucky (even if it was induced artificially by Kiritsugu by using Origin bullets on him so he overloaded himself)

At least in this ep, she stays cool & classy even in the defeat, unlike the previous one...

Also is this version of Archer a nod at Archer-ko? Back in the days there was some fads about a certain doujinshi that implied an accidental (not sexual!) fusion between Illya and Shirou, leading to Archer-ko...

The Heroic Spirits on Kaleid actually are technically on par with their Fate version, but they are mantained and powered up by their respective cards instead of a master.

Even having Rin as a master Saber can run out of prana if she uses too much quickly as it happened in UBW, so unlike you use a "cheat" master like Sakura, Heroic Spirits can use prana faster than their supplies

U know at first i had no idea what was such the big deal about this anime, but now that I marathoned the manga to the third season and watching these episodes, im seriously hoping for all of em to be animated now that they're on a roll

She just used Include using her body as the medium instead of Ruby. As for her "snapping", I think it has to do more with what she is in the Fateverse.

This has to be the most epic episode ever seen in the annals of the Fateverse. Ok, I may be exaggerating a little bit, since technically I'm sort of a newbie when it comes to the Fateverse. However, watching Archer Illya on screen and in action was pure epic to the HAXX power.

Her condition to snapping the way she did could be attribute to different factors, but the two most important are:
- Illyasviel condition as she is regarded within the whole Fateverse. This one is definitely a spoiler for those who happen to be first-time newcomers to the Fate Universe and have not watched yet the other three previous animated works before: Fate/stay night, Unlimited Blade Works movie, and Fate/Zero. Hence, I won't reveal it for surprise factor sake.

- Illya simply had too much taste of senseless destruction, and she entered in panic reacting around all that trail of wreckage and fearing for the worst that the others might have died.

BTW, as I was writing this whole post I was listening to track 23rd, Emiya -Kenji Kawaii ver.- from Fate/stay night soundtrack. I'm listening to this particular track, because I swear I heard a similar tune at the time Archer Illya was going all nuke against Black Saber.
Even, I would dare to think that the track played during the climax of Archer Illya vs. Black Saber could be interpreted as a tribute of sorts to the music played in Unlimited Blade Works, or those other pieces of score that addressed Shiro in the first Fate series.

Archer Illya and her "heroic" performance on duel in this episode deserve a very praised, perfect score. I don't care if the animation before suffered a drop in quality and increase in gloominess.

Furthermore, it was wonderfully how the gave closure to the first act with Miyu carrying Illya on her back to home while concerning about the whole fantastical events that she witnessed and what Illya did.
