Supreme Court Strikes Down Patents on Human Genes:
"The Supreme Court said human genes isolated by scientists may not be patented, ruling unanimously today in a dispute weighing intellectual property associated with genes known to detect early signs of breast and ovarian cancer." See: http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/201...human-patents/ |

Its more serious than just owning your genes, doctors cannot treat those cancers because their research and cures are patented.
While it is true that under those patents, the labs that once owned the genes were able to study the cancers in great detail, they do not share their research data. Another weird patent that has been going on was on numbers.

Mob Stoolie: Il Cosa Nostra Wanted UAVs for Hits:
"The US military may hold the crown for most people whacked from an autonomous weapons platform but it is far from the first to try remotely-piloted death machines. According to one former mafioso, the Graviano family was testing radio-controlled, explosives-laden kamikaze craft for the handling of its staffing issues two decades ago." Just kill the cancer cells.......
Immunotherapy: Four Companies on the Verge of Cancer-Treatment Breakthroughs: "During the last decade, companies have spent billions of dollars in research to find new ways of treating the deadly disease of cancer. The difficult part is that cancer can come in a variety of different forms and can affect different parts of the body. This can make finding effective treatments very challenging. However, there is one promising treatment program that may soon create a lot of hope among medical professionals. That program is called immunotherapy." Google tested out their "balloon internet" at New Zealand. This was part of their "Project Loon", which attempts to provide cheap internet access to people in isolated areas all around the world. The test seems to have been pretty small scale, though, seeing as one guy only got to use the internet for like 15 minutes before the balloon(s) got too far away. Hopefully when this is formally launched they'll have enough balloons all over the world so that doesn't happen.
