It's more getting the copy for a reasonable price more than anything else I think. Importing ain't exactly cheap when you factor in custom fees and all.

Which reminds me, I GOTTA play this sometime. I dunno when though, when I'm currently engaged in FF12:IZJS and in a month, Tales of Graces. Which 'childhood friend' game to play?

Importing is easy and cheap these days, so I don't know what obstacles GDB could be talking about.

I know I'm projecting here, but I guess I just assume the average animesuki regular is moderately 'computer literate'/technology literate, and thus has no issues with region locks.

But, yes, I'm aware that to some people, bypassing it might seem intimidating, though when even mainstream gaming sites like Joystiq/IGN love Xenoblade enough to publish guides to get past the region lock on the Wii, I start to think even a 'normal' person in the USA shouldn't have an issue with it.

As far as price goes, it was nothing like importing a Japanese game (which I've only ever done once, as I can't understand Japanese, but ended up costing me almost $90 for a PSP game), where you can spend an arm and a leg. Got my copy of Xenoblade off Ebay a little over a month ago from a seller (actual retailer on ebay, vs some random person selling his used copy), from Europe and including shipping and handling, ended up paying $55, and it took two weeks. Hardly prohibitive. Though, I'm so used to getting things in 1-2 days that the two week part was definitely a bit frustrating.

On a completely different topic, pertaining to what DKaine3 said, my perfect FFXII game would have been the non-existent version that had the improvements from IZJS while keeping the original license board. I know that sort of defeats the purpose, but I hate the restrictive board that locks you into one specific role. Yet, I love all the other quality of life improvements from the IZJS version, like improved gambits and making many of them available much earlier and improved chest spawns, etc. Of course, the perfect FFXII would also require Basch to return to being the main character, and Vaan to never have existed as originally designed. Gawd, words can't describe how much I hate how pointless Vaan is to the story (well, to be fair, so is Penelo, but she's cute, so it's hard to detest her). That hate blinded me so much that I actually hated the game the first time I played, and it wasn't until a few years later when I was able to calm down and ignore Vaan that I found myself really enjoying FFXII.

Anyways, this isn't the FFXII thread, so um...is it a rule that any character named '7/Seven' has to be awesome?

It feels like years since they've been updated, btw.
Also, cake.

Just finished this. Great game. It's got all the qualities of what great JRPGs should have:

* Great Story
* Great Setting (entire civilizations built on the bodies of huge gods? Count me in!)
* Great Drama (I did cry a few times...)
* Great Characters ( <3 Melia)

Best JRPG I've played since Persona 4. Great epic story, and unlike other JRPGs I've played recently (ahem Final Fantasy XIII) I didn't feel like tearing my eyes out due to corniness overload. Also, unlike other RPGs, the game wasn't just a single long corridor and actually allowed me to explore and see some damn fine vistas (those vistas... It's like the game sprinkles in vantage points just so you have a chance to survey their work!).

My only criticism is that the game is way too easy, especially if you like to do sidequests like I do. Also, money is basically worthless. Persona 4 was a much tighter and more difficult game. But then, I'm used to overly easy JRPGs.

I just wish I wasn't at the end, but at the beginning again...

There was one fatal error on the game though, it's the fact you keep your level on new game +.

That's simply aweful.

In truth, I don't really know what New Game + adds to the game. It's not like there's alternate plot paths to explore.

Most implementations of NG+ have always seemed tacked on to me. It worked in Chrono Trigger, but only because there's 13 endings and the game is fairly short.

I knew that, but I'm not playing through another 60 hours of content I've already seen just to make it slightly easier to defeat some optional bosses.

I liked the game a lot, but I think it's a poor attempt at trying to extend replayability. best to complete it once, in a comprehensive fashion.

Also, why is this game getting so little love on these forums? Has no one played it? I would have thought this game would have gotten a lot more comments once it came out stateside.

I just assumed it's because no one owns a Wii.

Wowowowo, when did that happened?

Pretty sure it is just bad advertising on NoA side, they didn't wanted to bring the game over to the americas, until public pressure from fans was so big, that they only released it via their own Nintendo shop and gamestop(?). Gamestop might be big, but face it JRPG gamers probably wouldn't go there to shop anyways, so they probably didn't know that it was released.

Well, I'm not sure, because if that gamer really likes JRPGs, then they would keep up with news about Xenoblade and they would have known that it came out. Even if they just go to,say, Gamefaqs, there would be topics on its release and they would learn about it from there.

A lot more then the number of people who own a PS3...

Also, if you don't own a wii, there are alternative ways out there to play it.

If it comes to people not knowing about the release, I would have thought the whole Operation Rainfall thing would have raised it's profile, it's certainly how I knew about it.

Anyway, I'll say it again, best JRPG of the last 2 years.

I always assumed that a big fraction of JRPG gamers, especially females, are not those so called core or hardcore gamers, so they do not actually follow those pages or forums, and buy their video and computer games in toy stores, department stores or any shop that isn't that geeky/specialised.
I mean even here on this board I really doubt that a lot of people know that this game even exists, because they don't pop in this bit of the forum.

It's really quite sad, because this game is quality.

And really quite beautiful.

I wouldn't watch the whole of that video if you plan on playing the game and experiencing the thrill of discovery. That said, the first minute is fine.

I've nearly beat this game and oh my god its...just...so great. Like everything from the writing, to the story, to the art style, to the combat system, to the sheer scope of the game its all bloody perfect (in my humblest of opinions).

Anyone here hyped for Xenoblade Chronicles X? It's being called "the spiritual successor to Xenoblade Chronicles", and yeh it has mechs.
I'm not much of a mech guy but this looks so remarkably dank, I foam at the mouth every time news about XCX is released.

Only bummer about it is it has a silent protagonist and don't get me wrong I love doing hella customization in RPG's but I thought Xenoblade Chronicles had such a great protagonist I just don't know how this'll work out. But aye, maybe they'll handle it perfectly.
