The problem with that kind of assessment is that faithfulness to a source isn't always in the hands of the anime studio. You have sponsors, publishers, directors, writers, and time/budget constraints (i.e. no money to do all the elaborate action scenes? Cut them out and deliver new material) all influencing how an adaptation is shaped. In fact, I'd wager that the studio has much less influence over story content than any of the above. Virtually every studio in the business has been blamed for drastic deviations from sources, so it's a ubiquitous complaint that's universal to the industry (since most projects don't get the funding of a top-class I.G. or KyoAni series).

Anyway, for all the disappointing titles Deen has put out, they also have quite a lengthy line of reputable shows: Hetalia, Junjou Romantica, Maria Watches Over Us, Read or Die, Kyo kara Maoh!, Hell Girl......Simoun (highly acclaimed), Touka Gettan, and Yami to Bōshi to Hon no Tabibito also showed off some extremely creative minds.

You don't remain so prolific in the business unless you're generally reliable.

It's not really Deen - it has to do with their staff... Take Chiaki Kon for example.... Worst director ever - if this adaptation were to fall into her hands, I'd be raging all over the place (like I did with umineko)...

As it's SHAFT and Shinbo, all is fine in the world to me 8'D
I'll never forget the GREAT adaptation they did with Ef. (didn't really like Bakemonogatari sorry)

Ef was so good because Shinbo wasn't the director, he's good for some kind of anime but terrible for others. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt in Vampire Bund for his excellent work on Cosette.

He did, but just as a supervisor, Oonuma was the director. In my opinion Shaft works better when Shinbo is the series director and Onuma takes care of directing the individual episodes.

The Who Subs What wiki lists three definite groups and one possible: Yuurisan-Subs, Kesenai Subtitles?, gg, Hatsuyuki.

The wiki is where groups interested in doing the show let other groups know they are doing it. I also put that info in my preview blog posts for each season. See link in sig below.

The first episode was a better introduction episode than I expected, though how they handled the episode is way unexpected. I love how the story connected with the omake Dance with the Vampire Maid at the end.

And as expected, it was A.C.G.T.'s episode right from the start.

12 episodes?! *head explodes*

Don't tell me they're gonna butcher this series the way Gonzo butchered R+V?!

WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT.

Haha I can honestly say that caught me completely off guard and had me confused for at least the first five minutes. Wow, Shaft, just... wow.

Loved it, if for the unexpectedness alone.

Well, I've read the Manga and I have to say why couldn't they just start with that? The first 2 ch. would have been a perfect start.......

WHY this.......

I have no clue who was responsible for the decision to air a filler episode as the first episode for this anime, but that was terrible waste of time and completely unnecessary and whoever is responsible should be fired.

Honestly, the introduction chapters in the Manga were a good starting point, I don't see why they are trolling the fanbase of this show from the very first episode.
