Romance

So I haven't watched too many anime but I am relatively picky. I am looking for some recommendations for romance anime with a more serious plot and some good characters.

What I like:
Paradise Kiss
Macross Frontier
Special A
Toradora
Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi
Vampire Knights
Kaichou wa Maid-sama
Mayo Chiki
Aishiteruze Baby
KissxSis
Kamfer

ect...

What I don't like is: anything too slapstick, I can deal with a little but it is just annoying after a while. Aside from a few really good one, I cant stand much if the characters don't kiss at least. There has to be a good quality animation and English sub is a must, I like dubbed but it isn't necessary in the least.

Anyways thanks!!

You'd probably enjoy REC, and you can watch it all in an evening. I'll also suggest Nodame Cantabile, though there are some slapstick moments, and the mains don't kiss until the sequels. REC is only available in fansubs. There's an English dub of Nodame that was released in Asia; you can find it if you look hard enough.

Saiunkoku Monogatari has strong characters who do kiss, but it's currently in licensing limbo. The link will give you a couple of options. The DVDs include dubs.

One other option is Planetes though again you'll see the occasional bits of slapstick. Otherwise it fits the bill, though I don't recall exactly when (if?) the loving couple actually kiss.

You should be watching Spice and Wolf. It's economics/romance, which should meet all your criteria of a serious plot, good humor without being slapstick and even a kiss too.

Aside from this, you may also enjoy;

Kimi Ni Todoke. Not much to say here, it's a fairly standard slice of life/drama/romance but manages to actually stay serious while being up-beat and positive.

Buso Renkin. Fighting/Romance, again fits all your criteria mentioned. Done by the guy who did Rurouni Kenshin, which in and of itself is also a very good rec (OAVs included) XD

EF a tale of memories and EF a tale of melodies for nice romance stories and some drama.
Mashiroiro Symphony for a slower paced, but relaxing romance.
True Tears was also a nice romance overall if you like the characters, the atmosphere was gret though.

I recommend ;

Hanasakeru Seishounen
Vampire knight
Aishteruze baby
Rosario Vampire
Special A
Kimi ni todoke 1st and second season
Fortune Arterial

some of these are more like ''i love you like a good friend but'', and i think in Hanasakeru Seishounen there is a kiss scene or two : )

Ao no exorcist is not really a romance series, but its some there loove there; >
