Discussion for the manga of "Watashi-tachi no Tamura-kun".
Or like the manga covers say "Our Dear Tamura-kun"

Aah, it has to end already?! What a thing...

So far, a great and enjoyable story. Love the covers of the manga a lot too.

Synopsis (from novel thread):

Tamura Yukisada, a thrird year middle school student, fell in love at first sight with Matsuzawa Komaki. However, Komaki, being the eccentric girl she is, only says that she must return to her homeland star. When Yukisada learns that Komaki meant she wanted to join her parents, who were killed in an accident, he decides to confess to her. After Komaki's grandmother, her only in-law, passes away, she moves out. Yukisada kept in touch with Komaki by exchanging letters, but she stopped sending it around the time of high school entrance exams. Upon entering high school, Yukisada meets Souma Hiroka, an girl who hardly attended middle school, who was tutored by Yukisada's older brother Nao. Yukisada attentively looks after Hiroka, wherein she opens her heart to him and confesses her love. One day, Yukihiro receives a letter from Komaki for the first time in a while. Written in the letter was, "Who is Souma-sam?". The beginning of a love triangle.

Anyways, it's a love comedy-love triangle type of story between Tamura Yukisada, Matsuzawa Komaki, and Souma Hiroka.

First two volumes also feature bonus chapters (1 per volume) focusing on Tamura's friend, Takaura Shinichi, and his younger sister, Tamai Io.

Even by the end of the third volume, it's still hard to tell who Tamura will choose. But that's one good part of the story! Of course, haven't read the novels yet, so I don't know the conclusion either. (-_-)

Spoiler for character thoughts so far:

Yukisada - I guess you can say he's the typical protagonist for a love comedy. Gets carried away at times though and more on the aggressive side than the wimpy side, and a likable character. Overall, pretty normal.
Can be quite silly though, sometimes really thinking Komaki can use telepathy. Like when he got the letter that said "Who is Souma-san", he shouted into the sky...

Komaki - Like a page in the manga says, "mysterious girl" character.
Rather sad past, losing her family in an accident. What's more, when Yukisada and she finally open up a lot more to each other, she has to move away.
She runs (in track) and is pretty good as well.
In volume 3, she comes back once for a track meet, only to get injured during a race. Yukisada, who came to meet her, ended up leaving without really getting to talk to her (at all). Not only that, he found out later that a certain school wanted her, but she rejected the offer to take the exams to get into a school in the nearby town (which would allow her to move back and see him more often...). But she failed the exams, and in the end, gets picked up by the school that wanted her...
So far, almost all of the parts of the story focusing on her is in flashbacks, of course.
Can send telepathic waves...?

Hiroka - The "cool tundra-type" character. A very pretty girl (apparently), but her cold attitude to everyone doesn't do anything for her popularity. Was a truant in the past, for various reasonable reasons. Volume 2 focuses on her a lot, and she kisses Yukisada in this volume. Mah, she treats him a lot better around this volume, compared to the beginning.
Was really funny when Yukisada revealed that he was the younger brother of her home tutor. She screamed "gyaaadaaa!" which seems to be a fusion of "gyaa" and "yada".

Shinichi - Typical guy, not much to say. I feel he might be slightly siscon...
Trying to get a girlfriend, and trying to show Io that romances/such things aren't all, as she says, "filthy". Good luck, Onii-chan!
Like a sub-character should be, doesn't play much role in the story. Though he was the one to notify Yukisada about the track meet and Komaki.

Io - Err... Probably thanks to her rather complicated family background, she went from introvert(ed bookworm?) to occult maniac. Thinks sexual relationships and such things to all be filthy. Tried to draw Shinichi into the occult world, failed miserably (though it was more of less his fault), and threw a slipper in his face (aah, kawaii katta kedo, kawaii katta...).
Seems to have a pretty bad sense of style, shown in vol 3. Either that, or she did that on purpose and made her brother look like a fool...
According to her mother, she (mother) was like Io when she was young. Shinichi kind of panicked here... I don't think it's possible myself, but I'd like to see that, sort of.

If you plan to move Neosam's post to the manga thread, if it isn't too much trouble, can you split his post from mine into two different threads, and change his title to "novel discussion" and mine to "manga discussion"?
The novels and manga might have different material, and other titles have both a manga and novel thread (like Toradora), which is why I suggest this.

It seems the end will have two bonus chapters, one being "Himitsu Melancholy" and the other being the second chapter for Takaura and Io.
Looking forward to Himitsu Melancholy, but I would have been happy if they did "Ohige Girls" instead of Takaura 2...
I curse the fact I won't be able to get this volume for a while...

I believe that's it. SCX's 5 chapters and Takaura extra 1-1.

I dont know what you mean when you say that it is unclear who will be the chosen one girl. For me it is miles away clear that it will be Komaki and that Hiroka has no chances whatsoever.

It never really shifts from pursuing Komaki and it won't shift in the end as well. i would be VERY surprised if it would be Hiroka. But I think it will be Komaki. Seems very predictable.

And characters are not great either. Rather dull if you ask me. Well at least artwork is good.

Very good! And only 4 volumes, so you won't lose much by investing in this manga.
And since there is a scanlation going on, you might as well try it out and see for yourself.

Because every chapter is alternating between Komaki and Hiroka, I got confused reading this, but overall, it's a great series. I just found out that the story author is the same as ToraDora!

Though it still wasn't bad (although definitely not as good as the novel version), and it was very satisfying. The great art (the characters all look so cute in the manga) was also good help. It's too bad there aren't more protagonists like Yukisada these days...
Himitsu Melancholy was also great. Good mix of comedy and drama, and it even linked a bit to the actual story! Quite amusing at the fact that Wataru had the same last name as Yukisada...
Takaura & Io chapter... Umm, no comment. Art was great though, yeah.

I've read up to chapter 6 plus the first extra chapter. It's a nice manga. It's very simple. And since I like simple things (aswell as insanely complicated things) I find it attractive.

I didn't know it was by the same author as Toradora! but I did feel something that implied such, the artwork looked similar (the original artwork for both was by Yasu, but the manga of both wered one by different people) and the way things were presented seemed alike.

The story very "quiet" compared to Toradora's. Toradora has it's side characters which make story have alot of life. Tamura-kun has around....3-5 side characters (from what I've seen) and they are not really expanded upon much. THIS IS NOT A BAD STORY DECISION. But anyway, Io is the best side character so far

I don't know how the novels are. But so far the manga seems to focus ALOT on Matsuzawa. But this actually does make sense considering that Tamura loves her. I'm interested in Souma abit more. Maybe because I like tsundere. But I look forward to knowing her real character.

In the end. So far. I like it
I want read the end. SCX keep it up.

Continuing from the last volume, Yukisada tells Hiroka that he can't fall in love with her until he settles everything with Komaki. Later that night, he gets a call from Takaura about how Komaki went missing, so he runs off to search for her. After searching many places like the train station, he finally realizes and finds her at the their old middle school at the track. She tells him that she had come to say good-bye to him, and reveals that:
-She made a bet with herself on winning the race. But because she lost (actually, she fell, but anyways), she came to say good-bye.
-She also says that the reason she stopped replying was simply because after realizing that he hadn't sent her a letter for a while, she wondered what would happen if she didn't send a letter to him. Which, as Yukisada realized, was something he did too.
And she leaves and tells him to throw away the charm she sent him.

Later (next day, I believe), on his way to school, he was thinking about the charm, which was in his hand. Then his friends come along and fool with him and they find out the charm had already been opened. And then, wind blows causing the charm to fly and scattering the insides (pieces of paper). Hiroka picks some up and sees what was written, and Yukisada tells her he doesn't need it anymore, but she dumps it over his head. And then he finally reads them...

*insert emotionally moving scene*

And he runs off to find Komaki (he really has been running a lot lately), but Hiroka comes along and tells him to get on her bike (dangerous).

Skipping along, they reach the train station and Yukisada starts looking for Komaki. He finds her sleeping in the train and wakes her up and... moving along, they talk to each other, and Komaki says she loves him and such... And then the train departs and Yukisada watches her leave.
He walks off (rather, I hope they hurried back to school) with Hiroka, and the manga ends with each narrating what their "Tamura" was, and like the title, "Watashi-tachi no Tamura-kun".

Note, but the actual story was only around half of the volume... The rest were extra stories...
