Very interesting episode. Top-notch art and animation. Fan-service (!). I'm diving into the rest of the show.

Hellz yeah... plus the "large thighs" haven't made me turn away after the initial glance. I wasn't expecting any kind of fan-service from this show, so it has taken me by surprise. Certain angles and looks from the camera on certain female body parts, especially the hips, increases the femininity by a large margin. While I don't understand the need for fan-service, I'm not really complaining since I'm pretty much a fan of fan-service. Fan-service also wasn't blatantly tasteless since it mostly left on viewers imagination.

The first half reminded me of the movie Abyss. The show also has the best overall animation among the 7 other series that I've watched from this spring season of 2008. The animation alone is incentive enough for me to continue with this series. Bring on the episode 2.

My bet is that without the fanservice element the ratings will be lower.

There was no tone period because this is the internet and thus any tone you imagine when reading another's post is merely made up in your own mind based on preconceived notions.

If your talking about the Anisubs release I am pretty sure it is fake since it came out about a week before the first episode aired.

Some groups are subbing this show - refer the Fansub Wiki: Spring 2008. They just haven't released their fansubs yet. Patience.

Shows worth watching often have much more difficult scripts to translate. You just learn to have patience. I admire the groups that take on shows like Moyashimon or Oh! Edo Rocket that aren't written largely in conversational Japanese.

That said, I couldn't find Real Drive on the wiki. I'll be really surprised if Shinsen or maybe A-Kraze don't sub this. When was the last time a major Production I.G show wasn't subbed?

According to Saizen forums, the first ep is translated and in second round of editing. Shinsen probably have similar progress if they're still doing it. Official ED lyrics are out now too They're certainly not easy to get by ear alone.

Real Drive's OP is pretty cool guy. Eh has gratuitous naked male ass and schoolgirls abusing an old and tired man.

The song is fine too (it's the same style of j-rock as the ending, fast-paced and catchy, though not really A+).

Episode 2 is out as well. And it's far less interesting than the first one.

Spoiler for 2:

Some exposition of Minamo's childhood 10 years prior and her perspective of the scenes where she is going to meet Haru to care for him while Holon is offline.

The second part of the episode has the continuation of the plot. Haru dives into the net and attempts to restore power, but the Power station has been knocked out by the storm. Minamo finds the old wind farm and with Haru's help on the net manages to activate it and transmit power to the town and the hospital. After the credits roll, Kushima arrives to the island on a plane to pick up Haru.

Somewhat sub-par episode. Minamo's childhood was stylistically boring and grey (even bordering on off-format). And the restoring power subplot was rather shrug-worthy. Where's the magic? Where's the mystery or, at least, some cyber-hijinks that wow us with the techno-coolness?

Let's hope they returns soon.

OK, so personaly this was a huge let-down. The plot is interesting, but my mind is distracted by the annoying and clichéed gimmicks of the androids. The seiyuu sequence at the very end was also painful. Despite its high technical quality, I'm not sure I want to go further...
